ABSTRACT

With the enhancements of science and technology in this 21st century, the usage of mass transit or public transport had increased and upgraded drastically. With this invention of public transportation, numerous people are able to move from one place to another with the most affordable price and at a shorter period of time. Public transportation had also helped to reduce air pollution as well as traffic jams for the benefits of everyone. Hence, the government has urged the public to use public transportations provided from time to time. Previous researches have indicated that the public transport services have caused many problems. Thus, this research will further investigate the difficulties that students faced due to lack of public transportation services in Universiti Teknologi Petronas. Throughout this research, quantitative method has been used in which a set of one page selfdevelop questionnaire consisting of ten questions was distributed randomly. Sixty students who are currently studying in University Teknologi Petronas were kindly requested to spend some time filling in the questionnaires. The outcome of the questionnaire clearly indicated that the majority of the students were unsatisfied with the public transport services in the campus. Students were also reported having attendance issues and financial problems. Not forgetting, most of the students affirmed that shuttle buses should be implemented to aid students to classes and towns. In a nutshell, it can be seen that students are really in need of shuttle busses in Universiti Teknologi Petronas due to various problems that occur due to lack of public transportation in the campus. Assisting to that, Jauch et al. (2009), Langworthy et al. (2006), Razali (2010), Tseu (2006) and Adeyemi (2009) all agree that lack of public transportation has caused many problems and crises to their respective universities in their respective countries.
