India, despite being an agrarian economy, still lags behind in providing transparent and efficient Agro-marketing infrastructure to the

farmers and traders. The design and implementation of a computing system which will provide this infrastructure on a national scale has become a necessity from the economic point of view. In any typical Asian Agro-market, wholesale spot markets and derivative markets are emerging hubs of agricultural marketing business. Agro trade in these markets is heavily influenced by local, socio-economic and cultural characteristics. This leads to variation in the crop prices of same crop in different markets. The producers have little choice to search for the best available price and are forced to sell their products in a local market. Inhibitive transport and storage cost can also play a pivotal role apart from urgency to sell perishable products. Buyers and wholesalers experience difficulties in purchasing desired quality of products at competitive prices. The Model Act (Model Act, 2003) is expected to bring reforms in the Agricultural Marketing Process. A nation-wide Agro-marketing grid capable of efficient handling of trade can bring many benefits to the economy of the agricultural sector. This work aims at developing a scalable, working application at a basic level which will have all middleware configured and all the necessary services deployed. This on-going research project work gives the background of the project and delves into the current economic scenario of agricultural trading and APMC which defines the main problem. Then it gives details about the requirements, design and implementation of various services to computerize nation wide APMCs.
