Christians Are Not Under Ten Commandments

Brian Hyde January 31, 2012

Christians are not under the Ten Commandments; they are not under law but under grace. Those who allege otherwise show an appalling ignorance of how grace works and are essentially saying that Gods Spirit is lawless. I am not a theologian but I will share my understanding of how grace works. If you state it better then do let me know and I will publish it (see website below for contact details.) Grace ministers to believers a righteousness which has been gifted them and is thus already theirs positionally (imputation of Christ's perfect righteousness). Righteousness is generated wihin them by God Himself. Hello. Did you see that? by God Himself. (Not my words but His see Jer 31; cf. Phil 2:13) Now, if it is by God Himself what more is needed? Nothing! How so? This righteousness is based on moral principles which are of a far higher standard and wider in scope than a mere ten laws ordained exclusively and thus temporarily for the nation Israel. Traditionalists should stop trying to prescribe Gods grace in terms of works; obedience to external law. The two are antithetical. If salvation (and its corollary, sanctificfation) is by grace it is none of works; if it is of works it is none of grace (Eph 2:8-9). The work of grace results in a change of mind and attitude which is evidenced by hatred toward sin and love toward righteousness. The evidence of regeneration is a life led by the Spirit (Rom 8:14). Naturally this life is in perfect harmony with Gods law (universal law) because it is His very own moral virtues that God writes on our heart (Jer 31:31-34); and which Paul describes as the law of the Spirit of life in Christ JesusRom 8;2). It is wrought BY GOD, no less! God is love (love noun; hence He IS love) and what He does in our heart we can have confidence is a perfect work of love (Phil 1:6). Divine love is a principled love: expressed in moral values; it is not shallow sentimentalism. Grace is not passive; it is dynamic and active. It works agape love in the mind and on the heart. Love is a fulfilling of the law (Romans 13:10). What law? God is love; Jesus is God and Jesus, who is love, fulfilled all law and, not least, Gods universal law expressed in timeless and enduring principles. He will fulfill it in us too, if we trust Him and stop trying to do it ourself.
