INTRODUCTION

Palm kernel cake (PKC) has long been known to be an important ingredient for the formulation of animal. It is said to be excellent for ruminants, as it contain nutritive value that meets the dietary of the ruminants. PKC is obtained as a byproduct from the extraction of palm kernel oil via the mechanical process. The production of PKC involves the grinding of palm kernels followed by screw pressing with or without an intermediary flaking and cooking stages. During the screw pressing stage, the raw palm kernel oil is diverted for clarification and the residual PKC is cooled and stored in a warehouse.

Pelletizing of animal feeds can result in pellets from 1.2 mm, through to 34 mm and up to 810 mm. The variety of size depends to the livestock and suitable size of pellet is required to improve the palatability. The pelletizing of stock feed is done with the pellet mill machinery, which is done in a feed mill. Pelletizing is done in a pellet mill, where feed is normally conditioned and thermal treated in the fitted conditioners of a pellet mill. The feed is then pushed through the holes and a pellet die and exit the pellet mill as pelleted feed.

For this experiment, the pellet is given to the target goats, which is, young male goats.. It contains high crude protein (CP) content which make is suitable given as a feedstuff for livestock. However, supplying the goats with pellet only is not a complete diet. So, we want to investigate the effect of feed intake of pellet for about three days and we want to see if the goats can increase the body weight.

SUMMARY : The result of the feed intake is disrupted by the goats behavior. All the goats are on heat and want to mate with the female goats. In the next shed, the female goats are finished with heat synchronization program, so the smell from the shed are attracted the male goats in our shed. This leads to conditions where they are

fighting with each other, thus reduce the amount of feed intake. They also cause the feed and water container spilled so this cause error to our data. For the next experiment, it is recommended that the goat is placed where no other goats around for a better result. In day 3, we switched the feeding technique by put the feedstuff at its common feed container. In the next experiment, we should do this from the first day to ensure the accurate result. From the data obtain, the result is nearly the same from the data before experiment is done. This shows that the pellet is not a complete feed, although it contains high crude protein. The goats need to supplied with grass to helps improve the rumination and the development of microorganism in the body. Plus, the nutrient contain shows in the label of the packaging of the pellet should not be trusted completely. It is better for us to do proximate analysis to check the content of the pellet. Compare with the last experiment, which is done by using oil palm frond, there is an increase of body weight. This is because the goats are used to be feed with pellet before. The management of the shed usually feed Humidicola grass and pellet to the goats. This means, when the goats are used to the feed, there is no need for the microorganisms in the body to be adjusted for the feed intake. Previously, the microorganisms need to be adjusted because we introduced new feed to the goats, which is the oil palm frond.
