Astrology Exercise
The purpose of this exercise is for students to analyze and discuss the legitimacy of horoscopes and astrology in general. After the group discussion that will take place, students should be able to distinguish between astronomy and astrology. Due date: Friday, February 3, 2012 (uploaded to Blackboard by 10am) On Friday and Saturday (Jan. 27 & 28), collect a horoscope from a local newspaper (or from the internet) for each day. Read the horoscope early in the morning. At the end of the day write a small paragraph describing any significant events from that day. (Include the horoscopes with each paragraph.) On Monday and Tuesday (Jan. 30 & 31), collect more horoscopes, but do not look at them until the end of the day, after you have written down details that happened during each day. Compare the horoscopes to your written paragraphs (again, include each horoscope with the corresponding paragraph). (NOTE: You do not have to collect horoscopes on exactly these four days. As long as you collect horoscopes and write paragraphs on four days, the last one no later than Wed., Feb. 1, you will be fine.) For this assignment, you must upload, in one document, the following: 1. The four horoscopes you used for your study (make sure you include the date each was collected). 2. The four paragraphs describing each of the four days of your study. 3. Answers to the following questions: a. How accurate were your horoscopes on the first two days of your study? b. How accurate were your horoscopes on the last two days of your study? c. Were they more accurate, less accurate, or about the same as the first two horoscopes? d. What conclusions would you draw regarding the predictive powers of astrology?

Make sure you submit your paragraphs, horoscopes & answers to these questions (in one file) in the dropbox on Blackboard no later than 10am on Friday, Feb. 3rd. Make sure your file is in one of the following formats: .doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt, or .pdf. If I cannot open it, I cannot give you credit for the assignment.
