A machine tool to separate aggregates by particle size by means of an exciting force applied to the machine causing it to vibrate.
It agitates the material causing the material to stratify allowing the smaller material to fall through the openings of the screening surface.
PLANTS HANDLING CEMENT, AGGREGATE AND OTHER MATERIAL IN THE MINING AND MINERAL PROCESSING INDUSTRY OFTEN REQUIRE THE SIZING OF MATERIAL FOR PROCESS REQUIREMENTS. THIS IS PERFORMED BY A SCREEN.
PURPOSE OF SCREENING
THERE IS A WIDE RANGE OF PURPOSES OF SCREENING, THE MAIN PURPOSES IN THE MINERAL INDUSTRY ARE: 1. TO PREVENT THE ENTRY OF UNDERSIZE INTO CRUSHERS THEREBY INCREASING THEIR CAPACITY & EFFICIENCY. 2. TO PREVENT OVERSIZE MATERIAL FROM PASSING TO THE NEXT STAGE IN CLOSED-CIRCUIT FINE CRUSHING AND GRINDING OPERATIONS.
SCREEN MACHINE Screen Machine is used to effect the separation of particles into various sizes. This separation is carried out in a VIBRATING SCREEN MACHINE. VIBRATOR ASSEMBLY TOP DECK BOTTOM DECK
SEPARATION should ideally mean all the particles smaller than the separation size pass through the deck, while all the particles larger than the separation size should pass over the deck. But actually particles slightly smaller than the separation size have difficulty in passing through the screen element.
UNDERSIZE: Material presented to the screen deck, smaller than the deck opening. OVERSIZE: Material presented to the screen deck, larger than the deck opening.
DECK: Media separating particles based on size. SCREEN SIZE: Defined by its width b/w side plates and length. CRITICAL SIZE: It is 70% - 100% of the aperture size.
EFFICIENCY: Ratio of the percentage of undersize in the feed which passes through to the percentage of undersize which should pass through = (Actual throughput) / (Theoretical throughput)
SCREENING PROCESS
SCREENING COMPRISES THE PHYSICAL SEPARATION OF MATERIALS ACCORDING TO THEIR PARTICLE SIZE. IN COMMERCIAL SIZING OR SCREENING TWO BASIC PROCESS TAKE PLACE:
1) STRATIFICATION:
THE PROCESS WHEREBY LARGER SIZE PARTICLES RISE TO THE TOP OF THE BED OF MATERIAL BEING SHAKEN OR VIBRATED, WHILE THE SMALLER SIZE PARTICLES SIFT THROUGH THE VOID AND FIND THEIR WAY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BED.
- RATE OF TRAVEL
- STROKE CHARACTERISTICS
SCREENING PROCESS
2) SEPARATION: THE PROCESS OF PARTICLES PRESENTING THEMSELVES TO APERTURES AND BEING REJECTED IF LARGER THAN THE OPENING OR PASSED THROUGH IF SMALLER.
FEED CHARACTERISTICS :
- UNDERSIZE CONTENT - CRITICAL PARTICLE CONTENT - FEED RATE (BED THICKNESS) - MOISTURE CONTENT - PARTICLE SHAPE
MACHINE FACTORS :
- TYPE OF DUTY - STROKE / AMPLITUDE - RPM - TYPE OF MOTION - INCLINATION - LENGTH & WIDTH
DECK FACTORS
- DECK TYPE - DECK MATERIAL - APERTURE SIZE & SHAPE - OPEN AREA - DECK FIXING
EXTRANEOUS FACTORS
