Course Aim The course will provide students with the fundamental knowledge and skills that are closely related to the engineering design process. The course covers graphics communication in engineering that include both manual and computer aided (CAD) technical drawings as well as solid modeling, exploded and assembly of mechanical products and components using a 3D CAD software package. Course Description Fundamental knowledge and skills in producing two dimensional graphics communications are taught for manual technical drawings, and using AutoCAD. The required standards and conventions will be covered as well as types of graphical information dissemination. Solid modeling, assembly and generation of technical drawings from three dimensional models are taught using Pro/Engineer software. Students will have to undertake a group based project that consists of proposal sketching, technical drawings, solid modeling, written report and oral presentation of work. Course Objectives 1. To teach the fundamentals of engineering graphics and technical engineering drawings in design and manufacturing. 2. To teach the standards and conventions used in engineering drawing to produce manual drawings. 3. To produce two dimensional drawings using manual technique and computer aided drawing software. 4. To produce three dimensional solid models using advanced 3D CAD software. Main Reference(s) Gary R. Bertoline, Eric N. Wiebe, Fundamentals of Graphics Communication, Fifth Edition, McGraw Hill, 2007.
