INTRODUCTION
y A B S sensor or vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is a type

of tachometer
y It is a sender device used for reading the speed of a

vehicle's wheel rotation.

y It usually consists of a toothed ring and pickup.

WORKING PRINCIPLE OF ABS SENSORS

y OPTICAL TYPE:Based on photodiode.

y HALL I.C TYPE:Based on hall effect.

OPTICAL ABS SENSORS

y It consists of light

interrupted rotor.
y Light emitting diode. y Photo detector.

HALL I.C TYPE SENSOR

It consists of a slotted rotor . A magnetic pick up.

Location of parts
y The slotted rotor may be mounted on the axle, the

brake rotor, the drum or the constant velocity joint.

y The sensor is stationary. y The gap between the two is critical ,some sensors

may be adjusted, most cant.
