Why Study Ancient World Cultures?

http://eawc.evansville.edu/ 1.First of all, why do we need to study ancient world cultures? 2.I guess its important for us to study it so we can connect it to our daily lives like in the history of NEAR EAST, there lies the life and death of king Gilgamesh also with the Hebrews. 3.According to the essay, the Hebrews found that the mysterious serpent was also in the creation story in the Garden of Eden. 4.I think that the Hebrews are also in command with the most common religion here today, the Roman Catholic. 5.In INDIA, the Hindus influenced the world by acquisitiveness. 6.In EGYPT, pharoahs believed in immortality as they build great pyramids of their own with the help of his own people to represent them in perpetuity. 7.In CHINA, I think that we must have well balanced human life along with natural community and by not dominating other's lives. 8.In GREECE, they played a role of being the critics in the present world because of Socrates' questioning about himself and his beliefs in the power of language. 9.The Greeks have the richest art and architecture and the world knows about it until today. 10.In ROME, the world's known as the imperial city is the one that brought the Greek's culture into a famous world attention. 11.ISLAM is the counter-part of the Catholicism because Ishmael and Hagar were banished and had to live in the southern part or now Mecca. 12.Hundreds of years later, Mohammed was born and he was a descendant of the Hebrew Ishmael that maybe, made the Middle East an Islamic country. 13.I thought that if we combined all the cultures stated above, we can call it as our ownselves but why? 14.Its because that the revolutions of war, capturing of islands, and conquering of empires happened many years ago so its not far that their cultures are mixed with each other and that's what we are today. 15.Its up to us now that we must learn how to value our mixed cultures so we can be united as one people in our own shared world. :)
