7, page 109-110 Aristotle was a Greek philosopher who believed that to find the ultimate truth we must start with our reality. Most Greek philosophers of the Hellenic Age searched for answers to the question what is truth. Socrates believed truth can be obtained through the psyche or soul. His successor, Plato, believed the what we see in this life is a shadow or form of what is true. He believed that to reach truth, we must leave this world. Aristotle was a student of Plato and disagreed with his mentor that truth was somewhere else, but that we can achieve truth through observation of our own world. Another goal ancient people sought to achieve was a supreme good. Aristotle also believed that ethical conduct plays a major part in the supreme good. He divided life into three prominent lives, the sensual, the political, and the speculative. A person who lives a sensual life tends to succumb to more animalistic urges. These people do however do this in consideration because so many follow this path. A person who lives a political life tends to put more emphasis on honor. These people lead a life of confidence in their own actions. Aristotle, however, believed this view is different from
