ya a 4\ merican anguage ellie: nia Defense Language Institute English Language Center Preface ‘The American Language Course (ALC) is a comprehensive program designed primarily for intensive English language training. The course will provide students who do not understand and speak English with sufficient English language skills to enable them to successfully pursue technical or professional training at various schools sponsored by the Department of Defense of the United States of America. In the General English phase of the ALC, the language student will learn basic structures and vocabulary of American English by practicing the four language skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The General English phase of the ALC consists of six progressive levels of language proficiency training. Levels I - V (Books 1-30) consist of six separate instructional packages each. Level VI (Books 31 - 34) consists of four such packages.
