1. A garden plot is to contain 200 sq.ft. If its length is to be twice its width, what should its dimension be? To get the dimension, I assumed a length. Since the problem say that length is to be twice its width, so the dimension that I assume is 10ft by 20ft. To check, I draw it in AutoCAD and get the area of the drawing which is 200sq.ft. Figure:

AR A=200sq.ft. E

Answer: 200sq.ft.

2. A sail has a spread of canvas as shown in the figure. Find the surface area of one side of the sail. First, make a line 12ft with 90 degrees of angle and 9ft with 0degrees angle. From the tip of the 12ft line make a circle with a radius of 12ft and from the tip of line 9ft make a circle with a radius of 15ft.Then from the intersection of the two circle make a line to the tip of 12ft and 9ft line. Erase the two circles. Then from that drawing we can now determine the area that the problem is asking which is 136.48sq.ft. In getting the area, command PEDIT then select join and command again list so the area will appear. Figure:

Answer: 136.48sq.ft.

3. The plane area shown in the figure consists of an isosceles trapezoid (non-parallel sides equal) and a segment of a circle. If the non-parallel sides are tangent to the segment at pints A and B, find the area of the composite figure. First, make a line 3in with angle of 0degrees.Then make a line 30degrees of angle and the other tip of 150 degrees of angle. Make an equilateral triangle from the line 3in that was recently drawn., the first line is 3in. with angle of 120degrees and the other is 3in. with angle of 60degrees.After that make a circle from the upper tip of the triangle to the tip of line 3in at the base. Trim the circle and make a line 5in. from the quadrant of trimmed circle. From that line make a horizontal line then trim it from the intersection of the lines that was recently created (the line with the angle of 30 and 150degrees). In the drawing being created by AutoCAD we can now determine the area of composite figure which is 51.2290sq.in. In getting the area, command PEDIT then select join and command again list so the area will appear. Figure:

AREA=51.229sq.in.

Answer: 51.2290sq.in.

4. Find the area of the rectilinear figure shown, if it is the difference between two isosceles trapezoids whose corresponding sides are parallel. First, make a line 12in. and make a line 8in. from the midpoint of the line with the angle of 90degrees. Then make a line 18in. horizontally then move it from the midpoint of the line to the tip of the line 8in. After that make a line from the tip of 12in. line and 18in. line at both left and right. Then offset the three lines with 2in. and trim the lines that are not needed. From that drawing we can now determine the area that is being asked in the problem which is 51.132sq.in. In getting the area, command PEDIT then select join and command again list so the area will appear. Figure:

Answer: 51.132sq.in.

5. The points C and D in the figure lie on level ground in the same vertical plane with the tip B of the tower AB. If the tower AB is 300 ft. high and measurements give A1B1 = 5 ft., CA1 = 12 ft., A2B2 = 6 ft., and A2D = 8 ft., find the distance CD. First, make a line 8ft with the angle of 180degrees and line 6ft with the angle of 90degrees then connect the both tip of 8ft and 6ft line. Then scale it with 50. Draw also the other triangle, make a line 12ft with the angle of 0degrees and line 5ft with the angle of 90degrees then connect the both tip of 12ft and 5ft line. Then scale it with 60(in scaling, I assumed it until I get 60 and 50, I check their heights which gives 300ft) . After that connect the two triangle that it was just scaled. From the drawing we can now determine the distance that is being asked from the problem. In getting the distance command distance and select the line that is being asked, then the distance appears which is 1120ft. Answer: 1120ft. 6. A 30ft. flagstaff is fixed in the center of a circular tower 40ft. in diameter. From a point in the same horizontal plane as the foot of the tower, the angles of elevation of the top of the flagstaff & top of the tower are found to be 36degrees and 30degrees respectively. What is the height of the tower? First, make a line 30ft vertically and at the bottom of the line make a line 20ft to the left (make sure that the ortho is on). Then make line at any length of angle 3240 from the end point of 30ft line. Also make line at any length of angle of 3300 from the end point of line 20ft. From the intersection of the two lines that just was constructed make a line at any length to the right. Then make a line at any length from the bottom of the 30ft line with angle of 270 0 and trim the lines that are not needed. From that drawing we can now determine the height of the tower that is being asked in the problem. Command distance to get the height which is 59.8631ft. Figure:

Answer: 59.8631ft.

7. Two lighthouses are 3.5km apart, and a certain rock is 4.8km from one of them. The angle substended by the two lighthouses at the rock is 50o20. How far is the rock from the other lighthouse? First make a line 4.8km and rotate it with 15.3330 then construct a circle with a radius of 3.5km from the other end. Draw a line the other end of rotated line of any length to the left, then from their intersections with the circle make a line to the other end of the rotated line. We can now determine the length which is asked from the problem, command distance to get the answer which is 7.8909km. Figure:

Answer: 7.8909km.
