Assignment 2 for BAIT506 Student ID: 68746114

Objectives and outcomes:

The objective of the modeling is to clarify the overall ordering process which includes a series of ordering activities of the customer and related divisions of the B-line grocer company. The outcome of the process is the ordered products are assembled and packed appropriately and ready for shipping.

Assumptions:
The EPC and BPMN modeling are based on the following assumptions: 1, The customer places either a new order or an automatically repeating order. In reality, customers can place a new order based on a repeating order with a few modifications. 2, Assuming the customer knows the product codes before they place an order on phone. 3, All the products the customer orders are in stock. 4, B-line grocer has an advanced telecommunication system on which the customer can press numbers to place orders and automatically generate an electronic order form.

Evaluations:
Criteria: 1, Roles, actions and information are clearly demonstrated for each step. 2, Data flows between different divisions are clear. 3, Have good scalability, which means process designers dont need to put in lots of efforts to update the process modeling for a minor function change in the business. EPC vs. BPMN: EPC can function well in process designs for a single or few divisions in a company which have limited players involved in business transactions, while BPMN works better in the process designs for the entire business landscape with multiple players tackling a great bunch of data flows and transactions. I prefer using BPMN in this case, since it more clearly demonstrates the workflows between different business units. Actions of the same division are bounded within the same lane or pool. Data flows within the division or between different divisions are clearly demonstrated with arrows. BPMN also has good scalability. For a few minor function changes within a division, designers can simply edit the sub-process or limit the modifications within a lane.
