Effects of cell culture parameters on the growth and metabolism of animal cells The growth and metabolism, and even production of animal cells are greatly influenced by the culture conditions. These parameters are temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen content and osmolality of the culture medium.

This is a group assignment. You are required to find out these effects for a specific cell line and prepare a written report. The important points to be included are: 1. How each parameters affect cell growth and metabolisms (increase? decrease?). 2. Why will it happens (the reason of this increment or decrement). 3. How those factors differ in different culture system (static culture? stirred culture?). 4. Typical optimum values for each parameter.

There is a minimum of 3 pages (font size 12, 1.5 spacing) written report (group) required, which covering the points mentioned above and excluding references. There must be at least THREE references from journal, either from review paper or original paper. Be preparing to present (in summary) individually the part from your group members.

You will be assessed based on the following (8%):

1. Your understanding on the topic (Q & A during presentation) 5 marks 2. Quality of your report (whether it covers everything required) 3 marks 3. References (fulfill the requirement) 2 marks 4. The effort you put on to search for information 5 marks 5. The format of report (follow instruction?) 1 mark
