Tense adalah : suatu pola yang di gunakan untuk menunjukkan perubahan bentuk kata kerja ( verb ), ( to ) be, dan auxiliary sesuai dengan keadaan. Secara tradisional tense dibedakan menjadi tiga kelompok yaitu: 1. Present Present tense Present continouse tense Present perfect tense Present perfect continouse tense

1. Present tense Present tense adalah tense yang menjelaskan tentang peristiwa yang terjadi di waktu sekarang dalam bentuk sederhana atau suatu pekerjaan / perbuatan yang dilakukan berulang-ulang atau perbuatan yang tidak ada kaitannya dengan waktu. S + V.1 + ( s/es )

Example : 1. she is my girlfriend 2. she reads the magazine 3. he is a smart boy 2. Present continouse tense Adalah tense yang menerangkan suatu perbuatan yang sedang berlangsung pada waktu sekarang : S + tobe (am,is,are) + V.ing Example : 1. she is waiting for the bus 2. he is reading the novel 3. they are waiting for their teacher

3. Present perfect tense Adalah tense yang menerangkan peristiwa yang terjadi pada waktu lampau yang ada hubungannya dengan masa sekarang,namun waktu terjadinya tidak jelas di ketahui: S + Have/Has + V.3 Example : 1. I have seen the show 2. I have studied English for five years 3. she has never brought the tools him

4. Present perfect continouse tense Adalah tense yang menyatakan suatu perbuatan yang sudah waktu tertentu ( lamanya ) terjadi sejak lampau yang sampai sekarang masih berlangsung terus. Dinyatakan dalam jangka

S + Have/Has + Been + V.1 + -ing

: 1. I have been waiting for you since eight oclock 2. They have been working in this office for two month 3. She has been swimming since seven oclock

5. Past Tense Pola kalimat yan menunjukkkan hal, keadaan, atau kejadian yang telah lalu (kemarin, tadi pagi, minggu lalu dsb).

6. Past Continouse Tense Pola kalimat yang digunakan untuk menyatakan lain terjadi atau perbuatan lain dilakukan. perbuatan atau

kejadian yang sedang berlangsung dalam waktu lampau pada saat peristiwa yang

S + was/were +Verb-1 + Ing

Contoh : 1. She was waiting for you when I meet her 2. While I was cooking in the kitchen, I heard the phone ring 3. He was reading the newspaper when the accident happen.

7. Past Perfect Tense Adalah pola kalimat yang di gunakan untuk menyatakan perbuatan yang sudah selesai atau sesuatu yang telah terjadi dan simple past tense terjadi kemudian pada waktu lampau.

S + Had + Verb-3

Contoh : 1. The bus had left berore I arrived 2. I had copied the lesson before she come home 3. I had studied before I went to the movie Kalimat di atas merupakan penggabungan antara Past tense dengan simple past tense

8. Past Perfect Continouse Tense Adalah pola kalimat yang menyatakan perbuatan yang sudah dimulai dan masih berlangsung pada waktu lampau. S + Had + Been + V-1 + Ing

Contoh : 1. When I came to Bandung in 1992, she had already been living there about five years 2. They have been working in that office for two month 3. She has been ill for two years ago

9. Future Tense Kalimat yang menunjukkan hal, kegiatan, atau keadaan yang akan terjadi yang akan dilakukan ( pada waktu yang akan dating ). S + Shall/Will + V-1 S+

tobe + going to + V-1 am, is, are

Contoh : 1. He will come to the party 2. She will help you with your homework tomorrow. 3. I am going to go to Bali next month..

10. Future Conntinouse Tense Di pakai untuk menunjukkan suatu perbuatan yang akan / sedang terjadi pada waktu tertentu pada masa yang akan dating. `

S + Shall/Will + Be + V-1 + Ing

Contoh : 1. At seven oclock tomorrow morning, I will be having breakfast 2. At this time next year, Rahmat will be traveling in Turkey

11. Future Perfect Tense Digunakan untuk menyatakan perbuatan yang sudah di mulai pada waktu lampau dan segera selesai pada waktu yang akan dating.

S + Shall/Will + Have + V-3

Contoh : 1. Rani will have done her homework by the end of this week 2. They will have left the school by one oclock this afternoon

12. Future Perfect Continouse Tense Pola kalimat yang di gunakan untuk menunjukkan hal atau perbuatan yang sudah berlangsung dan akan memakan jangka waktu ( tertentu ) sampai saat tertentu ( dimasa yang akan datang ). S + Will/Shall + Have Been + V-1 + Ing

Contoh : 1. By next Tuesday, they will have been staying here for a week 2. By three days later, she will have been reading the speech in front of the class 3. By next holiday, we will have been traveling to Bandung for two weeks

13. Past Future Tense Pola kalimat yang menunjukan bentuk future, yang di pakai dalam bentuk past.dengan demikian will harus di ubah menjadi bentuk past yaitu would. S + Should/Would + V-1

Contoh : 1. I should go to Bagek Longgek the next day 2. He said that he would be here 3. They asked me whether I would go to Bali

14. Past Future Continouse Tense Pada dasarnya, polanya sama dengan pola future continouse tense, dengan perbedaan will/shall diubah menjadi would/should yang menunjukkan pernyataan yang sudah lewat.

S + Would/Should + Be + V-1 + Ing

Contoh : 1. I should be taking an examination at this time the following day 2. He said I will be going to Singapore at seven oclock tonight 3. Rahmat said that she would be coming soon.

15. Past Future Perfect Tense Pola kalimat yang di gunakan untuk menunjukkan hal atau perbuatan yang sudah berlangssung dan akan memakan jangka waktu ( tertentu ) sampai saat tertentu ( di masa yang akan datang ).

S + Would/Should + Have + V-3 + Ing

Contoh : 1. He hoped that Yuni would have given the money by one oclock yesterday 2. He would have graduated if he had studied hard.

16. Past Future Perfect Continouse Tense Pola kalimat yang di gunakan untuk menyatakan hal atau perbuatan yang sudah/akan berlangsung sampai jangka waktu tertentu, di masa lampau.

S + Would/Should + Have Been + V-1 + Ing

Contoh : 1. By the end of this year, we should have been studying France for three years. 2. By the end of this month, Rahmat would have been going to abroad for four months.
