Future work As mentioned before in the report this project is aiming to create a robust system that would allow

detection and tracking of persons in a long term video sequence with the usage o f a normal uncalibrated webcam. The structure of this project was organized following the Gantt chart in Fig. 4.1. As it can be seen the first part that needs to be taken care of is the detection step. The reason for the small amount of time allocated for documentation is because this part was already started in early December and there was some time to choose what methods to follow and implement for the future system. This is mainly why this report only focuses on the detection step and not the tracking one. Because the goal of the system is to compare different methods in which detection could be done, the task was split into two separate sub-tasks: Segmentation approach and Region based approach. As there are two members in the group, the detection task could be done simultaneously saving time for the future tasks. Therefore, it was established that at the beginning of March the detection step should be taken care of and fully implemented. The next step in developing the system is the Tracker. Because of the complexity of the algorithm more time was allocated for the tracking step in order to gain a better understanding of the available methods and which one to choose (Kalman filter algorithm, condensation algorithm, particle filter algorithm etc.) Therefore this step should be finished in the middle of April. The last and most important thing before writing the report is the testing part in which the system will be tested and conclusions will be drawn regarding where the system begun developing and where it got to. The rest of the time is allocated for report writing and making the presentation.
