    This document summarizes an experiment to synthesize and characterize the cobalt(III) carbonate tetraammine complex ion [Co(NH3)4CO3]+. The complex was prepared by reacting cobalt(II) nitrate hexahydrate with ammonium carbonate and ammonium hydroxide in solution. The solution was oxidized with hydrogen peroxide, heated, filtered and cooled to obtain a precipitate. The precipitate was analyzed and found to have a yield of 0.73 grams and molar conductivity of 129 siemens, characterizing the complex ion.

    ABSTRAK

    This experiment aims to learn how to make, purification and characterization of how the complex ion [Co(NH3)4CO3] +. Preparation of [Co(NH3) 4CO3] NO3 is made from the reaction of Co(NO3)2.6H2O diluted with distilled water. Diluted with distilled water was added NH4CO3 with NH4OH. This solution was mixed into a solution of cobalt. Then added with H2O2 as oxidizing Co. The solution was heated to 75 mL volume. Solution is filtered and the filtrate is cooled in the refrigerator until the precipitate formed. The precipitate obtained with a rendemen of 0.73 g of 9,23%. As much as 0.1245 gram of sediment was diluted with 500 mL of distilled water and then measured molar conductivity. Molar conductivity obtained for 129 siemens.
