The history of metal Everyone at some point in there life has the urge to listen to music that is loud, fast and heavy. Whether that is because that is the type of music that they prefer o because they are trying to rebel against some sort of authority figure. There has always been this feeling of rebellion since the beginning of human existence, to stand out from the crowd. Metal is a great way to do this. It is also great for expanding ones musical horizon if they want to try listening to something new to them. The origins of metal have been said to have roots in both blues and psychedelic rock. This is the most popular belief of where the origins of metal are from. Some bands that have had large influences on heavy metal music are Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple. These were some of the first bands to use dark, heavy musical riffs. When most people thought of heavy metal during the early 1980s, they would think of bands tied to the new wave of British heavy metal such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Iron Maiden was the pioneer of bringing British heavy metal to America. Judas Priest was another large contributing factor to the popularity of British new wave bands. Though early metal bands such as led zeppelin and Black Sabbath had been popular in America for quite some time, heavy metal didnt start to gain mass popularity in America until the introduction of new wave British heavy metal and the spike in popularity

of band that were playing clubs on los Angeless sunset strip, that were nicknamed hair metal bands. These bands such as motley crue, guns n roses, and poison gained national and even international fame with them signing to larger record companies and having music videos on mtv helped them a lot.
