Have you ever been on a trail, that after your hike you said to yourself Um that was a great trail? A quality trail experience just doesnt happen on its own. A quality trail has to be built! The Sturbridge Trail Committee has received a trail education grant from the Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR) to hold a three day training on building quality, sustainable single track trails entitled: The Art and Science of trails. The training is going to be held on June 7 -9. This three day training program will include a day and of classroom training including grade, slope, width, dealing with large rocks and boulders, various types of wetland/stream crossings, multiple types of trails and trail use, as well as using GPS and GIS to map out your trail route. The remaining day and will be outdoors on the Sturbridge Leadmine Mt Conservation property actual hands on design, layout and construction of a mile gateway trail. This trail construction training, will be conducted by three of the nations premiere trail construction experts, Scott Linnenburger, of Kay Linn Enterprises, Woody Keen of Trail Dynamics and Jeremy Wimpey PhD of Applied Trails Research, all members of the Professional Trail Builders Assoc. Cost is $40.00 and includes lunch for two days and a copy of IMBAs Trail Solutions guide book.
