Bodega Colom is the oldest working winery in Argentina. In 2011 it celebrates its 180 years Anniversary. It was founded in 1831, by the Spanish governor of Salta, Nicols Severo de Isasmendi y Echalar. In 1854, his daughter Ascensin, who was married to Jos Benjamn Dvalos, brought the first French prephylloxera Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon vines to Colom.Colom belonged to t h e I s a s m e n d i - D va l o s family for 170 years. In 1969, the Rod family acquired the estate and the winery, which remained in its possession for 13 years. In 1982, Ral Dvalos, direct descendant of t h e I s a s m e n d i - D va l o s family, bought back the familys old homestead and kept it until the Hess Family Estates purchased it in 2001.

Grapes come mainly from Finca El Arenal in Payogasta at 2,600 meters altitude in the high area of Calchaqui Valley Region, Province of Salta, Northwest Argentina. The first vineyard that Donald Hess bought in Argentina which since 2001 was integrated to Bodega Colom. Soils are profound and sandy with low nutritional concentration. Climate is semi arid and desert with annual rainfalls of between 40 mm. and 150 mm. The thermal amplitude ranges from 20C to 25C. Vines have been cultivated under VSP system. 10% of grapes come from Colom vineyards at 2,300 meters.

Color: Intense red almost black with purple shades. Aromas: Complex and intense; black berries aromas, black pepper nuances and mineral notes such as graphite. Taste: Full-bodied and velvety. Fruit driven with high freshness and floral notes. Plenty of round and harmonic tannins. Very well balanced with a long finish.
