This utility program examines your disks and allows to remove duplicated files o r relocate (or copy) unique ones. Duplicated files are the files, matching by si ze and content. File name, date and so on are not considered. Searching of dupli cated files is very fast. Deleting of files is always made to recycle bin. But t herefore be careful while deleting it. Ensure, that files, what You delete, actu ally not needed. INSTALLATION

Unpack DirComp.exe where You wish. Or You can run it from the archive opened wit h WinZip. USAGE 1. First, add some directories to a tree (button FOLDER+ on upper toolbar). 2. It is possible to remove some directories (button FOLDER- on upper toolbar) o r exclude certain directory files from scanning ("Compare files" menu item in tr ee popup menu). Directories, which files will be compared, are marked with open folder icon (ini tially gray). It is possible to add or remove directories at any time. But if comparison is st arted already, any changes in tree have no effect - You should stop the process, and run it again. 3. You can mark some directories in tree for exclusive view (button FOLDEReye in upper toolbar). Such directories are marked with blue-eye-folder in tree, and l isted in tab "View directories" in bottom pages. If at least one directory is ma rked for exclusive comparison, only files of such directories are compared with files in all other directories, added to tree. This allows to easy detect duplic ated or unique files of "eyed " directories in compare with other ones. 4. Press GREEN-RUNNING-MAN button to start comparing. When the process is finish ed, small report is shown. 5. At any time (before, during or after comparing) it is possible to mark direct ories (together with its subdirectories) for ripping duplicated files (button FO LDER-RIP in upper toolbar). Such directories are marked with red icon RIP in tre e, and all duplicated files, beloning to such directories, also are marked with such icon in "Duplicated files" list. 6. Contrary mark-up ANCHOR (button FOLDER-ANCHOR) can be used to superside direc tory RIP mark with ANCHOR mark - together with subdirectories (when a directory is unmarked by clicking FOLDER-RIP or FOLDER-ANCHOR button on upper toolbar, it is unmarked, but its children directories - not. Use another markup to unmark di rectory together with its subdirectories). 7. It is preferrable to remove duplicated files using button RIP in below toolba r in tab "Duplicated files", when some directories are already marked to rip its duplicated files. In such case, duplicated files are ripped only in case when a t least one instance of such file is not marked to rip (marked with ANCHOR icon or not marked at all). 8. Certainly, it is possible to select some files and DELETE those using command DELETE (or key Delete on your keyboard), but be carefully! Use RIP command when ever possible instead. 9. Be careful, when working with "Unique files". This list is provided to solve some other tasks, then just removing duplicated files. May be, it could be usefu l to examine, which files of certain folders are actually distinct from other to make a backup of those. Though, You also can do all what You want with your f iles - on your risk. 10. Also, it is possible to do easy some other tasks using popup menu in tree of directories: to remove zero-length files, to remove empty subfolders (both thes e operations are recursive and performed for all subdirectories of the selected one).

11. After the comparison, it is possible to exclude "gray" directories (i.e., di rectories, which do not contain duplicated files) from view (not from disk). Use popup menu "eXclude gray dirs" command to do this. 12. In both lists, "Duplicated files" and "Unique files", it is possible to exam ine file content. Enter key or mouse double click will launch associated applica tion for given file (but a single file should be selected to do this). If SHIFT key is pressed, the file is always opened with standard notepad.
