A importncia da enfermagem na assistncia ao paciente de Alzheimer justifica-se em assistir o idoso de uma forma totalitria e humanizada, nos cuidados clnicos hospitalares especializados e nos diversos ambientes.

Alzheimers disease is a neurological pathology that first affects the recent memory, the logical reasoning and the communication, causing cognitive dementia which affects especially the necessary memory to retain new information. Formerly, dementia was known as senility, because it was considered an aging innate process. Nowadays, it has been already revealed that these patterns of dementia are not part of a regular aging. The importance of nursing in assisting the Alzheimer patient is justified for attending the elderly in a complete and humanized way, in specialized clinical hospital care and in diverse environments.
