1. Attempt both questions. 2. Follow the standard problem solving procedure. (State given data, state desired result, state your assumptions and approximations, draw any needed diagrams, and develop the solution). 3. Focus on your own work: cheating of any form will lead to penalty 1. A small vehicle enters the top A of the circular path with a horizontal velocity v0 and gathers speed as it moves down the path. Determine an expression for the angle to the position where the vehicle leaves the path and becomes a projectile. Evaluate your expression for v0 = 0 .Neglect friction and treat the vehicle as a particle.

2. The collar has a mass of 2 kg and is attached to the light spring, which has a stiffness of 30 N/m and an un-stretched length of 1.5 m. The collar is released from rest at A and slides up the smooth rod under the action of the constant 50-N force. Calculate the velocity v of the collar as it passes position B.

3. The collar has a mass of 5 kg and is confined to move along the smooth circular rod which lies in the horizontal plane. The attached spring has an unstretched length of 200 mm. If at the instant q = 300, the collar has a speed of v = 2m/s, determine the magnitude of the normal force of the rod on the collar and the collar's acceleration.

1. The sliders A and B are connected by a light rigid bar and move with negligible friction in the slots, both of which lie in a horizontal plane. For the position shown, the velocity of A is 0.4 m/s to the right. Determine the acceleration of each slider and the force in the bar at this instant.

2. The 10-kg block rests on a smooth incline. If the spring is originally stretched 0.5 m, determine the total work done by all forces acting on the block when the horizontal force P=400N pushes the block up the plane s=2m.

Instructions: 7. Attempt both questions. 8. Follow the standard problem solving procedure. (State given data, state desired result, state your assumptions and approximations, draw any needed diagrams, and develop the solution). 9. Focus on your own work: cheating of any form will lead to penalty 1. The coefficient of friction between the three blocks and the horizontal surface are = 0.25 and = 0.20. The mass of the blocks are mA=mC=10kg, and mB=5kg. Knowing that the blocks are initially at rest and that C moves to the right through 0.8 m in 0.4s, determine (a) the acceleration of each block, (b) the tension in the cable, (c) the force P. Neglect axle friction and masses of the pulleys.

2. The 7- kg collar A slides with negligible friction on the fixed vertical shaft. When the collar is released from rest at the bottom position shown, it moves up the shaft under the action of the

constant force F = 200 N applied to the cable. Calculate the stiffness k which the spring must have if its maximum compression is to be limited to 75mm. The position of the small pulley at B is fixed.
