Lesson Plan Template EDTECH 541 Your Name: Casey Farmer Lesson Title: Newton's Pendulum episode of The

Spangler Effect. Introduction: This lesson will introduce Newtons Laws of Motion. Content Area and Grade or Age Level of Students: 6th Grade Science Objectives: Students will be able to understand Newtons 3 Laws of Motion and apply that to create an experiment that works 8 out of 10 times. Standards Addressed:

Psc.1.2

Understand the relationship between forces and motion.

PSc.1.2.1 Explain how gravitational force affects the weight of an object and the velocity of an object in freefall. PSc.1.2.2 Classify frictional forces into one of four types: static, sliding, rolling, and fluid. PSc.1.2.3 Explain forces using Newtons three laws of motion.

Relative Advantage: Students will experience first-hand how the laws of motion work. Timeline: 3 days Day one will be introduction to Newtons Laws and video. Day 2 will be building their experiments. Day 3 will be testing their experiments. Materials: Promethean lesson on Newtons Laws of Motion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lhuyUJbuNc&feature=player_embedded Rope Soda Cans Grouping Strategies: For Promethean lesson and video class will be whole group For day 2 and 3 for experiment creation students will be broken into groups of 3 based off of pre-assessment given before the lesson. Learning Activities: Students will be given all necessary materials and follow the instructions that were provided in the video. Teacher also has made handouts of the instructions the students will need to follow. Each group will get one set of instructions to complete the experiment. Assessment: Students should have successfully created a pendulum that duplicates the one in the video that will work correctly 8 out of 10 times.
