Post- Lab Questions 1. What is a bacterial colony? Bacterial colony is defined as a visible cluster of bacteria growing on the surface of or within a solid medium, presumably cultured from a single cell. Because all organisms within the colony descend from a single ancestor, they are genetically identical. 2. Why is it important to invert the petri plates? Placing the plates upside down prevents condensation from dripping down onto the agar surface which could then facilitate movement of organisms between colonies. 3.
