Polluted tanks
Our little letter should surprise you, but we have to explain it.
We are part of a group of international schools, of almost, all European countries, that belong to the Comenius Project with the theme of water. Some days ago, we were walking around to gather information for our work when we noticed that your tank was abandoned and covered with all sorts of household waste. We were alarmed and decided to discuss the issue at our school. That was when we had the idea to warn you, asking some questions so you can reflect on them to take action. So here are some questions:
- Have you ever thought about the harm you are causing? Are you aware of the problems that water pollution brings to all living beings? Did you know that there are enough dangerous materials to the health of us all? And that contaminated water will kill birds and plants that serve as food for other living beings, including humans? Are you aware that in less than 25 years, if we continue to destroy the water without reusing it, there will be no drinking water for our children? If there are survivors, they will be ill, sad...
Do you remember what happened to Chernobyl? Have you ever wondered what would be like to live in this ghost land where humans do not survive? What about living in the desert without water? Have you ever wondered why millions of people walk lots of miles every day, just to store some water to feed themselves and for their personal hygiene?
Stop and think about it! Do you remember Mr. Antonios tank, which, just a few years ago, had fish jumping through the green, but with the trash they did not survive and died? If people continue to be selfish we are all going to die of thirst, malnourished and ill. We are sure you will take account of our sufferings and will change your attitude for the good of all.
Sincerely,
A fountain and a tank with contaminated water, not proper for human consumption
Douro River
During Winter, this river floods very often. By that time the River gets more polluted because of the residues dumped in the small rivers that run to it.
After being treated, the clean water is dumped into Nature and it doesnt contaminate our rivers.
