Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Gail is the middle daughter of a family of three girls. Following the death of her father at age seven, her widowed mother raised her in challenging circumstances. Possessing a keen love of school, she excelled academically and in extra curricular activities, in the public education system. She completed three university degrees in Nova Scotia, her BA, B.ED. and M.ED and continued her involvement in university life outside the classroom. She was elected Director of the Student Support Centre at St.Marys University, a twenty-four hour/seven days a week emergency response centre, that she helped create. She was awarded the Jim Kona award for outstanding excellence in community and extra curricular activities. She then went on to be the Interim Director of the City of Halifax crisis response centre, located at Dahousie University. Her first full time employment was as a City of Halifax Social Service Worker. She left that position to return to obtain her B.Ed and then worked as a teacher while completing her Masters degree part time. Following a move to Manitoba, she worked as the Coodinator of Special Services and Elementary Education, then as the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services. Her next move took her to Williams Lake, BC as the Coordinator of Gifted and Enrichment Programs. During her time in Williams Lake, she was blessed with the birth of her only child, her daughter Julianna. Gail worked extensively in the community, establishing two support groups for parents of gifted students. It was at this time as well as that she began and completed her course studies and wrote her comprehensive exams for the educational doctorate in leadership and policy. She moved to Fort Langley in July, 1995 and came to the Langley School District in 1999. In 2003 she was remarried, to George Costello, and became stepmother to his three children. In 2004, she opened the Cranberry Country Bed and Breakfast, which she still operates. She has remained an active community member and volunteer, as well as active in the BCTF and the local Langley Teachers Association, currently serving the teaching membership as local President. In 2009, she ran as an NDP Candidate in the provincial elections, finishing second behind the incumbent Liberal. When time permits, she loves to sail, ski, read, attend dramatic, musical and dance productions with her family and, best of all, entertain her family and friends at home.
