Have you ever just wanted to go home? Where's our comfort when we are sick of all of this and our soul is downcast?

Psalm 43:5 Why are you cast down, o my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?

John 14:1
DO NOT let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me.

They are troubled because of the news from Christ at the end of John 13 and Peter's predicted failure

Not being troubled/being comforted underlies the entirety of Chapter 14

It is a command to not be troubled Do not allow it to continue Don't be ruled by it

Christ is intimately interested in the pain of his friends Part of our comfort is that Christ loves and cares for us

John 14:2-4
In My Father's house there are many dwelling places (homes). If it were not so, I would have told you; for I am going away to prepare a place for you. (3) And when (if) I go and make ready a place for you, I will come back again and will take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also. (4)And [to the place] where I am going, you know the way.

Part of our comfort comes from the fact that this is not our home Trouble reminds us of that and cuts our heartstrings to this world

With our Father" highlights the pain and fright of sin The damage done to our relationship with God Broken relationship

How much of our identity comes from our relationship with our Father us Our identity is there! Be comforted- God is our Father and has provided a right relationship with him for

Many Rooms - Part of heaven is living in love with other Christians forever! Be comforted- you're not alone!

Bridal imagery-relational God wants to be with you! Christ coming is our great hope

John 14:5-7
Thomas said to Him, Lord, we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way? (6)Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me. (7)If you had known Me [had learned to recognize Me], you would also have known My Father. From now on, you know Him and have seen Him.

Be comforted - I am the way out of depravity to God Freeing, exclusive and true

Is your heart troubled? are you headed to heaven through Christ? Be comforted- you can know God through Christ

John 14:8-15
Philip said to Him, Lord, show us the Father [cause us to see the Father--that is all we ask]; then we shall be satisfied. (9) Jesus replied, Have I been with all of you for so long a time, and do you not recognize and know Me yet, Philip? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say then, Show us the Father?

(10) Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in Me? What I am telling you I do not say on My own authority and of My own accord; but the Father Who lives continually in Me does the ([a]His) works (His own miracles, deeds of power). (11) Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me; or else believe Me for the sake of the [very] works themselves. [If you cannot trust Me, at least let these works that I do in My Father's name convince you.] (12) I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in Me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father. (13) And I will do [I Myself will grant] whatever you ask in My Name [as [b]presenting all that I AM], so that the Father may be glorified and extolled in (through) the Son. (14) [Yes] I will grant [I Myself will do for you] whatever you shall ask in My Name [as [c]presenting all that I AM]. (15) If you [really] love Me, you will keep (obey) My commands.

Believe is here 5 times; Know God 3 times Christ is desperate for us to believe because He wants us to know God because He wants our joy and knows our satisfaction comes from knowing God

Will you trust/believe in Christ in your trouble? Based on knowledge, experience and relationship with him

v. 12: Be comforted, your works of faith done in a troubling world produce multiplied fruit v. 14: Be comforted, when you are troubled your needs are heart and met v. 15: Be comforted, you can obey God from love

God is with them in the midst of their suffering Isaiah 63:9 Isaish 50:4

No trouble here must rule you, not even death. I know you don't know the way, but I do!

Do you want to be at home with God? Do you want to have a relationship with God more than anything else?
