Published author, vocalist, and professional free-lance writer, Shera VJauan nurtured a life-long love for the arts at an early age. She was thirteen years old when she rst joined her school choir, where she began to explore the beauty and power of vocal expression. A literary bent introduced her to poetry, which she also pursued. She became an active participant in various music and poetry competitions, giving her the opportunity to travel to different states. She also performed in talent shows and artist showcases. Among her early accolades is her achievement of First Place in the NAACP ACT-SO Competition regionals, which won the chance for her to read her winning poem at the NAACP National Convention in Dallas, Texas. In 1991, Sherea's talents were noticed by Stellar Award winner Kenny Smith, for whom she sang background vocals. She continued to utilize her skills, singing radio jingles and performing vocals for other artists and production companies. A devout Christian, she has also performed in and penned original music for well-known Gospel plays at the famed Wilshire Ebell. Shera's positive spirit and abundant energy grows from her faith. While touring, she has continued to give back by sharing her gifts within the community. She has ministered at schools, churches, youth camps, and homeless shelters. No stranger to the hardships of life, Shera was raised by her maternal grandmother in Compton, California, following the death of her father. As a young adult, Shera was determined to escape the defeated mentality that many expected of her. She found strength in her faith that God would bring good things to those who love Him. With this foundation, she worked her way through college, persevering to achieve her goals. Shera is also the co-founder of The Goal Setters Club, a coaching organization based in Cerritos, California, that introduces the art of goal-setting to Americas youth. Believing in excellence, Shera continues to hone her craft as a poet and vocalist as a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, the Christian Writers Guild of San Diego County, and Toastmasters International. Shera is author of several book titles, including, Realistically Speaking: Speaking What's Real, Keeping What's Holy. A collection of poignant short stories, poems and inspirational sayings taken from everyday life, the book challenges individuals to expose their true selves to God's scrutiny, under the protection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Shera resides in Southern California, devoted wife for over twenty years to her husband Brian, and mother to their three children, Reginald, Jasmyn and Kennedy.

REALISTICALLY SPEAKING
Realistically Speaking is about the power of truth. Every day is another lesson, and weve all made the mistakes to teach us.# Life guarantees that more mistakes will come. No one is perfect, yet some Christians believe they have achieved this merely by choosing to follow Christ. It is time to uncover the realities of the average Christian lifestyle. This book is for those who understand their own imperfection. Part of that all-important journey to Christ involves making mistakes along the way, and the more we reveal our shortcomings as Christians, the more we can help and encourage each other as we try to live up to His example. These poems, short stories, and inspirational sayings are based on everyday situations, whether comical or serious. Sometimes we do not admit as Christians how we really feel when we experience these situations. But God says, He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whosoever confesses and renounces nds mercy. (Proverbs 28:13) God knows our hearts, and if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us of our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) The following selections were gathered to reveal what the inner struggle to lead a life with God is like. Often, we need to be reminded that we journey in the right direction. Life presents us with many trials, tribulations, and tests, but the worst mistake we can make is to reject God as our personal Lord and Savior. He is our stability, one constant source of love and forgiveness, and when we sin we have to recognize that repenting can bring us back into Gods favor. Every Christian falls short of the glory of Christ. Our beliefs are challenged daily, and it is easy to begin to doubt His power. Whether weve erred in word, in deed, or merely in thought, God is the only one who can help us overcome our mistakes. We are so privileged, to breathe, to sit and stand, to work, to play. We receive so many blessings, yet we fail to recall the One who is our Provider. Family, friends, nances, all our gifts of love and happiness and plenty come from that source. If we cant recognize this, we take life for granted, and get lost in worldly concerns. Recall, however, that this earth is not our nal destination. I want to encourage todays Christians to persevere in their efforts to overcome this world, as Christ overcame. He has given us the power to reach that goal. Now we must go into the world, and preach the gospel as we await the coming end and our destinies.
