FACTORIES ACT, 1948 => CHAPTER 3: HEALTH

11(1)Factory shall be kept clean & free from eflluvia.


(a)Accumulation of dirt & refuse shall be removed daily. (b)Floor of workroom shall be cleaned atleast once a week. (c)Effective means of drainage shall be provided and maintained, where floor liable to become wet. (d)All inside walls & partitions, ceilings, top of rooms, sides & top of passages & staircases shall be painted/cleaned at prescribed intervals. (e)the dates on which the processes of (d) carried out, shall be entered in prescribed register. 11(2)Power of State Government to EXEMPT (by order) any of provisions of Sub-section(1) in certain cases.

12(1) Effective arrangements shall be made for


treatment of wastes & affluents due to manufacturing process.

12(2) State Government may make rules prescribing arrangements to be made in sub-section (1).

13(1) Effective & Suitable provision for securing and


maintaining: (a)Adequate Ventilation by circulation of fresh air and (b)such a temperature as will secure to workers reasonable conditions of comfort & prevent injury to health 13(2)State Government may prescribe a standard of adequate ventilation & reasonable temperature. 13(3)Chief Inspector may prescribe measures to reduce temperaturewithout prejudice to sub-section (2), if he feels temperature in factory is excessively high.

14(1) Effective Measures shall be taken to prevent inhalation


of dust or fume or other impurity, which are injurious or offensice to the workers. 14(2) No stationary internal combustion engine shall be operated unless the exhaust is conducted into open air.

Sweepers shall be employed whose primary duty would be to keep the latrines/urinals and wash places clean. 19(2) In factories with more than 250 workers, specifications are provided for floors/internal wall, etc. 19(3)State Government may prescribe number of latrines & urinals provided in any factory in proportion with male and female workers.
