Ballet/Jazz/Hip-Hop/Tap Levels Level I: For students ages 6-10 with less than 1 year (3 terms) of study at Contempo or less than 3 years of other training in the specific discipline. Level I/II: For students ages 7-11 with at least 1 year (3 terms) of study at Contempo or instructor approval. No beginning students. Level II: For students ages 9-13 with at least 3 years of dance training in the specific discipline and instructor approval. A minimum of 2 classes per week is recommended for best progress at this level. Level II/III: For students ages 12+ with at least 4 years of dance training in the specific discipline and instructor approval. Level II/III students who take at least 3 ballet classes per week may also take pointe classes with instructor approval. Level III: For students ages 14+ with at least 5 years of recent training in the specific discipline. Ballet is the foundation of all dance training and is highly recommended, especially for those students who want to progress most quickly in any form of dance.

Other Popular Classes Family Dance (Mom/Dad + toddler): A fun dance exercise experience that parents share with their 1 to 3 year old child. 45 minute classes focus on gentle stretches, balance, rhythm, coordination and more. Creative Dance I: Your pre-schoolers introduction to the joy of dance! This class is perfect for children ages 3-4 who are pottytrained and ready to dance without Mom or Dad. All structures of a traditional dance class are introduced, including etiquette, warmup, barre work, movement through space and levels, terminology, and creative expression. Dance stories and activities reinforce learning, and students may participate in the annual recital. Creative Dance II: Designed for 4-year-olds with previous dance training and 5-year-olds who are relatively new to dance, this 1 hour class follows the same structure as Creative Dance I but adds more challenging elements, terminology and patterns and moves at a faster pace. Ballet for Skaters, Gymnasts, Dance Team: A focused class for those who need ballet to enhance their athletic performance. Proper placement of head, arms and upper body while doing leaps, turns, and extensions is emphasized, as is flexibility and fluidity of movement. BeMoved: BeMoved is a new dance fitness experience designed by Sherry Zunker. Classes begin with easy-to-follow therapeutic movements that integrate the upper and lower body. The warm up flows into dance styles inspired by a wide variety of musical genres, such as Bollywood, jazz, Latin, and disco.

Academy Calendar: The Contempo Dance Academy year (39 weeks) is divided into Fall, Winter, and Spring terms of 13 weeks each. Fall 2012 term: August 20-November 19
No class on Monday, September 3rd. Makeup day will be Monday, November 19th. No class from December 23-January 6.
For all dancers, hair must be secured away from the face in a bun or similar style. For safety purposes, no jewelry except for small earrings may be worn. Dancers must wear the uniform leotard color appropriate to their level. Required uniform dancewear as listed below is available for purchase or order at the studio. Creative Dance: Leotard with optional sheer chiffon skirt, pink convertible tights, and pink leather ballet shoes. Boys wear white T-shirt, black pants, and black ballet shoes. Tap shoes are required for Level II during Winter Term. Ballet: Leotard, pink footed or convertible tights, optional solid chiffon skirt and pink leather ballet shoes. No extra layered clothing. Pointe I students should not purchase pointe shoes until notified by their instructor. Jazz/Hip-Hop: Leotard, full length solid black jazz pants, black (for Level I) or tan (for I/II and all other levels) jazz shoes. Tap: Same as Jazz, except with black tap shoes. Family Dance and BeMoved: Comfortable clothing and clean sneakers, ballet, or jazz shoes.

An annual enrollment fee of $25 per student is assessed each academic year. A family discount of 5% off tuition is given to families who enroll in 3 or more classes. Company members may receive a tuition scholarship in lieu of the family discount.
