(Before Jenny could inquire about it, father talked to her.) FATHER: Ok lang yun. Everybody does it. Fifth Scene: When Jenny was 18 years old

First Scene: When Jenny was 6 years old Once upon a time, there was a little girl called Jenny. When Jenny was 6 years old, she was with her father when they were caught over speeding by a motorcycle policeman. POLICEMAN: Sir, over speeding kayo. Nasaan po ang licensya nyo? (The father handed over his drivers license to the policeman, with a P100 bill. Jenny just stared at them.) POLICEMAN: O, sige na. Pwede na kayo umalis. FATHER: Salamat, boss. (As they walk away, the father talked to Jenny.) FATHER: Ok lang yun. Everybody does it. Second Scene: When Jenny was 8 years old Jenny and her mother were driving in a hurry to shop at the supermarket, and since she could not find available space, she parked the car in a no-parking area. A traffic aide approached them. TRAFFIC AIDE: Maam, bawal po pumarada dito. (The mother was very quick in giving the traffic aide a P50 bill. Jenny just stared at them.) MOTHER: Hindi naman kami magtatagal. TRAFFIC AIDE: Ok po. (As they walk away, the mother talked to Jenny.) MOTHER: Ok lang yun. Everybody does it. Third Scene: When Jenny was 10 years old A balikbayan aunt of Jenny visited their house. She brought expensive electronic gadgets and appliances as generous pasalubong. (Jenny just listened to them.) Fourth Scene: When Jenny was 12 years old Jennys uncle visited her father. He presided over some business discussion on unpaid real estate taxes over land still jointly owned by relatives. Jenny, who was then in grade 6 understood a little but not everything. UNCLE: Alam mo, mga tao lang din naman yang mga taga-BIR nay an. Pagbigyan mo sila at pagbibigyan ka din nila. FATHER: Oo nga. Lahat naman sila ay ganun.

Jennys father wanted her so much to enter college in his own alma matter. But Jenny was a poor student in high school and her grades would not qualify her to be accepted into college. Her father talked privately to the Dean of Admissions, his close friend in college. FATHER: Pare baka naman pwede mo tulungan itong anak ko na maka-pasok ditto. DEAN: Oo naman pare. Ikaw pa! Para saan pa ang pinag-samahan natin kung di kita kayang tulungan, di ba? FATHER: Maraming salamat pare. (Jenny was very happy. As they walked away, her father tapped her shoulder talked to her.) FATHER: Ok lang yun. Everybody does it. Sixth Scene: When Jenny was on her freshman year Before final examinations, Jenny was approached by an upperclassman, the niece of her professor. UPPERCLASSMAN: Gusto mo ba pumasa sa exams? JENNY: Oo naman. Kaya nga nagpapakahirap ako mag-review e. UPPERCLASSMAN: Huwag ka na mag-review. Ibibigay ko ito sayo. Pero syempre may bayad. P500 lang at sigurado na papasa ka. JENNY: Bawal yan di ba? Baka mahuli ako. UPPERCLASSMAN: Ok lang yun. Everybody does it. During the examinations, Jenny was caught cheating, was kicked out of school, and sent home in disgrace. Last Scene: At home... Jennys father was furious and embarrassed. FATHER: How could you do this to your mother and me? You never learned anything like this at home. MOTHER: Anak, why? Where did we go wrong?
