Objectives i.

Understanding electrolysis

Learning Outcome: By the end of this lesson, students should be able to: i. ii. iii. State what the anode, cathode, anion, cation electrode and electrolyte. Describe the electrolysis of an electrolyte using carbon electrodes Explain the uses of electrolysis in industry.

Describe how electrolysis occurs. Describe the discharge process at the cathode and the anode. Explain the use of electrolysis in electroplating metals object.

1. Describe the electrolysis reaction. 2. Show video animation on how electrolysis occurs. 3. Show few electrolysis animation using different substances. 4. Discuss with the students the movement of ions during electrolysis. 5. Explain the products formation at the cathode and the anode electrode.

1. Relate the electroplating concept with the domestic products. Example: spoon.
