Career Objective
I am a self-directed, enthusiastic educator committed to creating in students a life-long capacity for learning through inquiry, doing, and relating to others. My work experience and education have prepared me to create innovative and challenging instruction that addresses the diverse needs and interests of students. Teaching: Developed a comprehensive library curriculum for K-8 students who had not previously had access to an in-school media center. On-going efforts include guiding students in finding and using a variety of materials appropriate to their reading level and language development, as well as supporting classroom teachers in their efforts to integrate technology and library services into individual instructional programs. Specifically focused on creating and maintaining a technology repository for curriculum-related resources, in addition to several blogs and wikis that allow students to participate in the Web 2.0 experience. Management: Re-organized entire collection of print materials to be in compliance with established library protocols. Introduced electronic resources including those from the Electronic Library for Minnesota (ELM), ProQuest, and TeachingBooks.net to the school learning community. Established policies and procedures for effective and efficient management of the media center. Recently completed cataloguing approximately 300 titles purchased prior to 2006, and overseeing an accelerated collection development program targeted at increasing the collection of print materials from 4,700 to 15,000 titles in five years. Professional Growth: Achieved yearly program goals aligned with HOPE Community Academys use of the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) model for English learners and Minnesota Q-Comp components.
