Sovereign ABSTRACT

From the very beginning of the study of crime investigation, reading the mind of criminals has been a challenge, which the crime investigators and the researchers in that field tried to do through their extensive studies on Criminal Psychology. We intend to present the latest findings and the necessary sides of Criminal Psychology through our months-long research. Apart from defining the Psychology in general term and the Psychology of a Criminal, our research paper covers chilling and significant topics like the Crime Sorting, Criminal Categories, Reasons behind crimes and reasons for becoming criminal etc. Related issues like Crime Victims and some examples are covered, to a lesser extent, too. Upon presenting some examples of Crime victims and the Criminals, we try to provide with some probable solutions individually for victims, criminals and the government.

Chapter 01 INTRODUCTION

Today we are living in the 21st century. The world is so fast and developed. Now people get every thing they want. To be frank, the world is moving with the developed technology. But it is a matter of great regrets that, modern technology of modern world causes devastating effect to our society. Our society as well as our culture is seriously affected by crimes. So we should think about the Criminal Psychology. This is an important topic because all of we know that criminals commit crime, but do not know that what is the psychology behind the criminals. So we have chosen this topic to find out what is the psychology behind crime. The main key points of our topic are criminal psychology, crime sorting, sorts of criminal, reasons behind crimes, reasons for being criminals, victims, some crimes examples, some criminals examples, solution etc.

What Is Psychology? The way a human being thinks about something and on that matter, all the views and ideas together make the psychology of that particular human being. Psychology is an academic and applied discipline which involves the scientific study of human (or animal) mental functions and behaviors. The word psychology is from Greek: (psukh: "breath", "spirit", "soul"); and - (-logia: "study of"). Psychology-1. The science that deals with mental processes and behavior. 2. The emotional and behavioral characteristics of an individual, group, or activity. 3. Subtle tactical action or argument used to manipulate or influence another. 4. Philosophy- The branch of metaphysics that studies the soul, the mind, and the relationship of life and mind to the functions of the body.

Sovereign Who Are Criminals?

If a human being is used to doing something against the law and ethical beliefs of our society, he or she is said to be a criminal. An individual who has been found guilty of the commission of conduct that causes social harm and that is punishable by law; a person who has committed a crime. Criminals are those people who commit many kinds of crimes such as murder, robbery, kidnapping, hijacking, mugging, rape, child abuse, cracking etc.

1. Of, involving, or having the nature of crime. 2. Relating to the administration of penal law. 3. a. Guilty of crime. b. Characteristic of a criminal. 4. Shameful; disgraceful: (a criminal waste of talent). 5. One that has committed or been legally convicted of a crime.

2.3 What Is Criminal Psychology?

The way a criminal thinks about his or her work and the way he or she plans about own life could be called criminal psychology. Criminal psychology is the study of the wills, thoughts, intentions and reactions of criminals. It is related to the field of criminal anthropology. The study goes deeply into what makes someone commit crime, but also the reactions after the crime, on the run or in court. Criminal psychologists are often called up as witnesses in court cases to help the jury understand the mind of the criminal. Some types of Psychiatry also deal with aspects of criminal behavior.

2.6 Reasons Behind Crimes: Need of getting someone disappeared Obeying the god fathers Saving other criminals from law & order Corrupted law enforcement organization Weak governing system Dishonest government employees Using students as a weapon Bad political environment and practice Lack of patriotism

2.7 Reasons for Being Criminals: Nature of showing up own skills Bad family condition Financial problems Bad parenting Immature thinking style Liking of chasing someone Need of a thrilling life Preferring an uncertain future

CHAPTER 03 DISCUSSION 3.1 Psychology of Some Sorts Of Criminals: Psychology of a cracker: There are many motivations for people to become crackers. Some computer enthusiasts and crackers lead a certain lifestyle that may predispose them to cracking. Crackers may often be socially inadequate, but are otherwise intellectually capable people and are often self-taught computer programmers. Crackers are predominately adolescent males (ages ranging from the teens to the twenties); teen angst and boredom are therefore powerful influences on cracking. Other powerful motivations include being able to exercise computer prowess, finding better ways to protect systems, revenge/vandalism, electronic voyeurism, and an ideology of "information socialism", where information is viewed as a public good which should not to be "hoarded" by anyone. Bill Landreth ,aka "The Cracker", lists several motives and profiles for and of crackers. Most crackers are in it for the intellectual challenge-- cracking is often a game of wits where crackers must carefully cover their tracks on user logs to avoid detection. Cracking a system presents a great challenge with equally great risks, because detection may ulitmately leads to arrest. Landreth describes five categories of crackers, each with a different

Sovereign motivation: the Novice, the Student, the Tourist, the Crasher, and the Thief. Novice: Comparable to internet "newbies". These entry-level crackers (usually ages 12 to 14) live off discarded or unused accounts of former employees or older crackers. They often perceive hacking as fun and mischievous: to them it is mostly play. The novice crakcer gets bored quickly, logging off to play video games or do homework. Novice crackers often make mistakes and are easily drawn out of hiding by stern system operators or other programmers.

10

Student: These crackers follow in the tradition of 1970's MIT students. They share a great passion for computers and computer programming. Their interest in unauthorized computer access is usually rather benign, and they often form social networks to crack and study systems. Students usually respect the programmers of the systems they crack, and feed off the intellectual challenge of learning about their targeted system. Students usually want to remain undetected in a system and if possible will leave no sign of their passing within the system. They try to find out as much information as possible about the systems they crack. Later in life, they often find employment as system operators.

11

Tourist: Tourists are another type of mostly benign cracker. They often feel the need to test themselves. Strong mathematical probability skills and backgrounds may allow them to crack almost any system. When they do crack a system and find nothing that is immediately interesting, they tend to log off. (They don't obsess over systems like students do). This type of cracker may not respect systems as much as the student crackers. To tourists, systems are meant to be broken into, not studied--their involvement with a system ends after they break in. Tourists can be malignant when they pass information on how to crack a particular system on to crashers and thieves.

Crasher: Crashers give all hackers a bad name. They seem to operate with little or no logical purpose other than stroking their egos and satisfying their need to boast by bringing systems to a crashing halt. They usually have one main goal: to make themselves known to their victims and peers. Crashers often adopt "tagging names". (ie the Crasher, Phiber Optik, or Dark Dante). The tag names allow everyone to know who was responsible for the damage they caused while simultaneously keeping their real identities a secret.

11

12

Thief: This cracker is a true criminal. To get access to systems, thieves may resort to blackmail or bribery to get the information needed to breakk into computer systems. Theives usually profit off their cracking activities. Theives are often involved with electronic espionage and sabotage. They are also the most professional of all crackers they do real research before hitting a computer system rather than relying on the stumbling "trial and error" approaches of the other cracker types. Their targets are intentional, not accidental. Theives are also the rarest type of cracker and the hardest to apprehend (only an estimated 5 to 10 percent are ever caught, because they are so good at what they do and at covering their tracks).

Psychology of a Murderer:

Dr. David Buss, an evolutionary psychologist at The University of Texas at Austin and author of the just-published The Murderer Next Door: Why the Mind is Designed to Kill has conducted an unprecedented set of studies investigating the underlying motives and circumstances of murders, from those of serial killers to the perfectly friendly next-door neighbor who one day commits murder. He examined FBI files of more than 400,000 murders, conducted a highly detailed study of nearly 400 murders, and led, with his collaborator Joshua Duntley, the largest homicidal fantasy study ever conducted. Killing is fundamentally in our nature because over the eons of human evolution murder was so surprisingly beneficial in the intense game of reproductive competition, Buss said. Our minds have developed adaptations to kill, which is contrary to previous theories that murder is something outside of human naturea pathology imposed from the distorting influences of culture, media images, poverty or child abuse. Though we may like to think that murderers are either pathological misfits or hardened criminals, he added, the vast majority of murders are committed by people who, until the day they kill, seem perfectly normal. To determine what would drive people over the edge and cause them to kill, participants in one of the studies were presented with more than a hundred different scenarios in which they recorded the probability they would kill. Nearly all people express a willingness to kill in some circumstancesto prevent being killed or to defend their children from killers, Buss said. The study reveals the specific circumstances in which normal people said that they would kill, with some surprising findings. For example, men indicate an increased willingness to kill as their mating prospects become dire; women do not.

Psychology of a Rapist:
We may find thousands of article on rape victims on the Internet, news paper, magazine but have you ever thought why men rape? How does an affectionate l over evolve into a hyped scavenger who leaps out at every single prey? Is it to satisfy their sexual desire or is it to prove that thy can overpower anything weak? Read to know the psychology of a rapist. Unfold the mystery of 'why men rape' to prevent the the most sensual act against women?

Expert psychologists define rape as a form of assault where one individual forces another to have sexual intercourse against that person's will. Most experts believe the primary cause of rape is an aggressive desire to dominate the victim rather than an attempt to achieve sexual fulfillment. They consider rape an act of violence rather than principally a sexual encounter. Here are some of the reasons according to the experts, Two present day sociobiologist's claim in their book that unsuccessful men use rape to gain sexual access to desirable mates. By making women pregnant, they proclaim to pass their genes on to the next generation. The above sentence may seem absurd as there are many inadequacies in this argument. For instance, if the primary concern of a rapist is to just procreate, then why do rapists attack the helpless elderly, menopausal women and innocent children? And has anybody thought about the number of murders made by the rapists as the dead bodies will never give birth. So one can conclude that these argument is baseless on many cases.

3.2 Who Are The Victims?

If someone faces the offence of criminal activities and assaulted by criminals directly or indirectly, he or she is a victim of that criminal.

1. One who is harmed or killed by a criminal. 2. A living creature slain and offered as a sacrifice during a right. 3. One who is harmed by or made to suffer from an act, circumstance, agency, or conditionvictims of war.

4. A person who suffers injury, loss, or death as a result of a voluntary undertakingvictim of own scheming.

5. A person who is tricked, swindled, or taken advantage of- the victim of a cruel hoax

3.3 Some Example of Victims of Criminals: Margaret Catherine Wilkerson: On October 25, 2004, the parents of Margaret Catherine Wilkerson discovered her missing from their residence in League City, Texas. It was reported that Wilkerson was using the Internet to communicate with unknown individuals in "chat rooms," and may have received pornography while using the Internet. It was further reported that Wilkerson told her friend she had a new boyfriend and was planning on leaving home.

Sofia Lucerno Juarez: Sofia Juarez was last seen at approximately 8:30 p.m. on February 4, 2003, near her residence in Kennewick, Washington.

Shausha Latine Henson: Shausha Latine Henson and Shaina Ashley Kirkpatrick were last seen with their mother on April 4, 2001, en route to Sacramento, California. On April 29, 2001, the body of their mother was found outside of Fernley, Nevada, while the whereabouts of the two girls remain unknown.

Shawn Damian Hornbeck: On Sunday, October 6, 2002, at approximately 1 p.m. (Central Time), Shawn Damian Hornbeck left his home riding his bicycle in a rural area in Richwoods, Missouri. Hornbeck was headed to a friend's house, but never arrived there. He was last seen, at around 4:30 p.m., riding his bicycle approximately 1/2 mile from his home. Hornbeck was expected to return home by 5 p.m.

16

Sovereign 3.4 Some Most Wanted Criminals

17

Richard Steve Goldberg: Sexual exploitation of children (production of child pornography); unlawful flight to avoid prosecution - lewd acts upon a child (six counts), possession of child pornography (two counts)

Usama Bin Laden: murder of u.s. nationals outside the united states; conspiracy to murder u.s. nationals outside the united states; attack on a federal facility resulting in death

Michael Alfonso: Unlawful flight to avoid prosecution - murder, aggravated stalking

Victor Manuel Gerena: He is wanted in connection with the armed robbery of approximately $7 million from a security company in West Hartford, Connecticut, in 1983. He allegedly took two security employees hostage at gunpoint and handcuffed, bound, and injected them with an unknown, non-lethal substance to further disable them. The FBI believes he may be living in Cuba. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $1,000,000 for information leading to Gerena's capture.

17

Sovereign Glen Stewart Godwin: He is being sought for his 1987 escape from Folsom State Prison in California, where he was serving a lengthy sentence for murder. He was

18

subsequently imprisoned in Mexico on drug trafficking charges, but escaped from prison there as well. Robert William Fisher: He is wanted for allegedly killing his wife Mary and their two young children Robert Jr. and Brittany and then blowing up the house in which they all lived in Scottsdale, Arizona, in April 2001. Possible motive for the murders is that Mary was about to file for divorce. Alexis Flores: is wanted for the kidnapping and murder of five-year-old Iriana DeJesus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in July 2000. According to a profile on America's Most Wanted, there is evidence the child was raped before the murder, although rape is not listed on his official FBI poster. He was last seen in Arizona, where he served a prison term for forgery. He may have returned to Honduras, where he is believed to still have ties.

James J. Bulger: Racketeering influenced and corrupt organizations (rico) - murder (18 counts), conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit extortion, narcotics distribution, conspiracy to commit money laundering; extortion; money laundering

Sovereign 3.5 Solution for:- victims, criminals, government

19

For victims Look after your children carefully Teach them how to grow up Save them from the criminals Take actions against the criminals Dont encourage crimes

For criminals Feel guilty for what have you done Try to back into the normal life Leave the god fathers Live honestly for the rest of your life Take help from a psychologist

For government Strengthen the law and order Help the law enforcement force Dont exploit students to do crime Ban student politics Catch up the god fathers first

CHAPTER-04 CONCLUSION

4.1 End Note

In a nut shell, it's very important to understand the way criminals think before they commit a crime. We tried to explore as much as possible and represented the facts in simple form so that the people who don't have expertise in this subject can understand neatly. This study should be spread among all the conscious citizens properly so that they can use this knowledge to become less vulnerable and less prone to be crime victims. The consciousness among the citizens, the criminals and the government are crucial because that is the only way we can finally get rid of a crime-filled world and have our dreams of keeping the world peace come true.
