NOTICE
As you know, we run many reader ads for government auctions, job positions, earn money at home, cash loans, credit cards, etc. Most of these ads come through state and national ad networks. Most of them are selling directories or listings of where to APPLY FOR what is advertised. This information may be available at less cost elsewhere. While these ads are screened where possible, we have no way of verifying the authenticity of their claims or the value of their product. The buying decision must be yours. If you have problems with any of these advertisers, please let us know and we will attempt to get you a refund. Most of the companies we have checked will refund their fees to unsatisfied customers. Read the ads carefully. Some charge a fee, as noted in the ad, directly to your phone bill when you call them. Once again, we cant verify claims for every ad. Please consider their offer and make a voluntary and reasonable buying decision. Moneysaver Advertising

Typically laid back get-togethers with family and friends, backyard barbecues are synonymous with warm weather and the relaxed atmosphere that such weather promotes. But even the best backyard barbecue comes with some level of risk. Cooking over an open flame will never be risk-free, but there are steps barbecue enthusiasts can take to make their next summer soiree that much safer. * Check for leaks. Due to their ease of use and convenience, propane grills have grown in popularity over the years. However, proponents of propane grills should inspect the propane tank as well as its hoses for leaks, cracks and corrosion. Any of those problems has the potential to be very dangerous, so address any issues before guests arrive. If guests are on their way already, simply visit the local hardware store and purchase a new tank or replace the damaged one. If the hoses are damaged, buy a charcoal grill to fill-in for the propane grill during the party. Charcoal grills are much less expensive than propane grills, and it might be a good idea for households that frequently host guests during grilling season to have a backup grill anyway. * Make the grill area a nonsmoking section. Some guests will want to smoke, and since the partys outdoors, this shouldnt be an issue. However, protect the food and reduce the risk of injury by insisting the
WITH THIS COUPON
area surrounding the grill is a nonsmoking section. * Dress in tighter clothing. The partys grill master should not wear loose clothing. Loose-fitting clothing, particularly long sleeves, can dip into the grill and potentially catch on fire. Avoid this risk by wearing tighter clothing that doesnt hang off the body. * Be certain all briquettes are extinguished. For those who prefer a charcoal grill, once the cooking has been completed be careful to extinguish all briquettes. If briquettes are discarded before they are full extinguished, they could easily spark a fire. Many a garbage can, and considerably more, has been lost to briquettes that were discarded before they were fully extinguished. As a safety measure, pour water over briquettes and never discard any briquettes that are still hot. * Never move the grill indoors. If an unexpected summer rain storm arrives on the night of the party, the grill should stay outside while the guests move indoors. A grill, whether its propane or charcoal, should never be used indoors because of the risk of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning. * Keep kids and pets clear. Its easy for kids and pets to suffer burns when around the grill. Kids might not be tall enough to see whats on the grill and, to make up for that, will grab the grill with their bare hands and push themselves up. This is almost certain to lead to burns. Pets dont know any better and are likely to get burned or even tip the grill over if theyre allowed near it. * Dont be liberal with the lighter fluid. When grilling on a charcoal grill, its not always easy to get the fire started. As a result, many people look to lighter fluid to help speed the process along. While this can work, its important to note that not much lighter fluid is necessary, and fluid should never be applied after the coals have lit. Backyard barbecues are a warm-weather tradition. Make sure such soirees stay safe and everyone goes home with a full belly and a host of good memories. HOW TO PREVENT LAWN DAMAGE Many homeowners aspire toward a pristine and lush lawn. For some a nice lawn gives them feelings of pride. Others believe a perfect lawn enables them to have the best-looking house in the neighborhood. Many homeowners spend hours outdoors perfecting their lawns or spend a good deal of money hiring professionals to make their lawn more appealing. But just because a lawn looks good now doesnt mean it will look good later. Thats because delicate grass can be damaged by a number of different factors. Grubs Grubs are not very lawn-friendly. Grubs are actually the larval stage of different types of large beetles. These worm-like creatures feed on the roots of grass and are able to kill large sections of the lawn in a relatively short amount of time. It can sometimes be difficult to discern whether grubs, drought or another other pest has damaged a lawn. One way to check is to grab a portion of the damaged lawn and attempt to peel it back. If it comes back easily like a piece of carpet, its likely grubs. Spotting grubs underneath is a sure sign these larvae are killing the lawn. Using an insecticide for grub control in July can help kill off grubs that start hatching in August through September. Grub eggs do well in sunny patches of lawn that are well watered. More shade may deter them. Theres also the option of letting the lawn go dormant and not watering it, but you will be left with a brown, unappealing lawn. Pet Urine Pets can also damage a lawn. Pet urine can create burnt patches and significant discoloration on the lawn, particularly if the dog or cat uses

the soil. The burrows they create are essentially traps for the worms, who fall into the burrows, where moles easily access them. Moles often stockpile worms for later consumption in underground larders. Moles can be kept away with natural mole predators, such as cats, hawks, owls and snakes. Mouse traps can also capture voles when baited. You may also dig sharp materials or chicken wire into your soil around planting beds to make it uncomfortable for voles and moles to tunnel through. Moles can also be controlled with traps. Finding active mole tunnels will help you place the traps effectively to either kill or simply contain the mole. The live animal can be relocated to a site where they wont cause trouble. Lawn damage can occur through a number of different factors. Finding out the cause can help you find an effective treatment.

TIPS FOR A MESS-FREE BARBECUE (NAPS)-More Americans are firing up their grills for backyard cookoutsand many say the reason for grillings popularity is that its relaxing. According to the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association, Americans say backyard barbecues are more relaxing than dining out-especially if you dont let cleanup and prep work spoil the mood. Rather than deal with the stresses of barbecue messes, here are some tips on throwing a mess-free cookout at home: Use disposers instead of trash cans. Chicken, ribs and burgers are among the most popular grilled foods, according to the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association. Many people may be surprised to learn that instead of tossing extra meat scraps and bones in a trash can, its possible to reduce large amounts of smelly trash by putting virtually any type of food-even bonesdown a food waste disposer with advanced grinding capabilities, such as InSinkErators Evolution Excel(r) with three-stage grind technology. Serve food in decorative plastic containers instead of on platters. Dirty dishes can pile up fast, so serve food in decorative plastic containers that double up as serving plates and refrigerator storage. While guests are eating, you can also protect food from bugs and flies with the lids. Reduce a messy kitchen by serving side dishes that can be prepared the day before. And while most cooks know the trick of marinating meats in baggies, do this the day before as well. In addition to having more-flavorful food, youll have no need for any messy food prep on the day of the barbecue. Cut fruits and vegetables beside the sink. Vegetable peels and fruit rinds can pile up quickly in garbage cans. As youre preparing fruits and vegetables for side dishes, cut them up beside the sink and toss them down the drain as you go along. Your disposer will thank you for this, as hard materials (like fruit pits) help scrape the inside of the grind chamber, removing any buildup. Make kebabs with small pieces of leftover meats and vegetables: Leftover grilled steak, chicken and veggies may be too little for a stand-alone meal, but put them onto skewers for a fun lunch or dinner the following day. This keeps you from tossing the leftovers and avoids unnecessary clutter in the fridge from extra baggies and containers.

TIPS ON TAMING A COMPUTER FOR MORE SPEED, LESS TROUBLE (NAPS)-Most people depend on personal computers for so much in daily life and when the computer seems sluggish, unresponsive or just generally underperforming, it can lead to frustration. Fortunately, if your computer is misbehaving, there are five simple steps you can take to help get it back up to speed. 1. Defrag Your Disk. Computer hard drives get fragmented when programs are installed and uninstalled and files are added and removed. The files end up scattered around the hard drive so its difficult for the drive to find everything you want in a timely manner. The built-in disk defragment tool can keep your computer running efficiently. 2. Stay Healthy. Just like humans, when a computer has a virus or is infected with spyware, it becomes sluggish and performance suffers. Keep your anti-virus program up to date and fight off cyber attackers. Run a full system scan every three to six months. Install an anti-spyware program, too. 3. Dont Be a Digital Hoarder. Whenever you install software updates, download images, save music files, edit documents or browse the Web, your computer accumulates files and programs, most of which are unnecessary. Use the built-in uninstaller to remove those unneeded files. 4. Blow it Out. Over time, the inside of your computer will accumulate a blanket of dust, which may result in a temperature rise inside your computer case. Open your computer case and blow out the dust using a canister of compressed air. Be sure to blow air through all fans in order to thoroughly clean them. 5. Upgrade Your Memory. Many computer performance issues can be resolved with a do-ityourself (RAM) memory upgrade. Anytime you open your e-mail, surf the Web, watch a video, type a paper, play a game or just plain turn on your computer, the computer is using its internal memory. When a computer does not have enough internal memory to properly run its programs, it becomes slow and unresponsive. Installing computer memory is a fairly simple process that requires no special tools or skills. However, finding the correct upgrade can sometimes be confusing as there are hundreds of thousands of options to choose from. Crucial.com makes finding and installing the correct memory upgrade simple with free, easy-touse online tools designed to help you quickly find a compatible memory upgrade. Using the Crucial Memory Advisor(tm) tool, you choose your computer make and model from a drop-down menu to see recommended memory upgrade options. Or, use the Crucial(r) System Scanner tool to automatically scan the computer to determine the current memory and view recommended compatible upgrades. Visit www.crucial.com for more tips and information on getting your computer back up to speed!
HOW TO AVOID ELDER FINANCIAL ABUSE (NAPS)-While elder financial abuse decimates incomes, affects the health of its victims and fractures families, the MetLife Mature Market Institute offers free resources and tools, including steps you can take to protect yourself and those you care for: Know the Facts and Stats. According to The MetLife Study of Elder Financial Abuse, most elder financial abuse is committed by strangers but about a third is by family, friends or neighbors. Stay Active. Socialize with family members and friends. Get involved in activities you enjoy. Isolation can leave you more vulnerable to exploitation. Monitor Your Affairs. Take your time and consult with people you trust before making important financial decisions. Check credit card and bank statements and bills for accuracy. Use direct deposit to prevent mail theft. Sign your own checks when possible. Be Organized. Keep important papers and legal documents in a secure place. Review them at least annually.

yards inland from the shoreline of the reservoir, excluding the area east of SR 3011 (Hartstown Road), hunters will have a daily limit of three and a possession limit of six. Also, in a portion of the SJBP Goose Zone in western Crawford County, the daily bag limit is one goose and possession limit of two geese in the area south of SR 198 from the Ohio state line to intersection of SR 18, SR 18 south to SR 618, SR 618 south to US Route 6, US Route 6 east to US Route 322/SR 18, US Route 322/SR 18 west to intersection of SR 3013, SR 3013 south to the Crawford/ Mercer County line. The exception to this is on State Game Land 214, where September goose hunting is closed. This restriction does not apply to youth participating in the expanded youth waterfowl hunting days, which are set for Sept. 15 and 22, when regular season regulations apply. The controlled hunting areas at the Game Commissions Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area in Lebanon-Lancaster counties, as well as all of State Game Land 46, will remain closed to September goose hunting to address the decline in the resident Canada goose flock. And, in the area of Lancaster and Lebanon counties north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike I-76, east of SR 501 to SR 419, south of SR 419 to Lebanon-Berks county line, west of Lebanon-Berks county line and Lancaster-Berks county line to SR 1053 (also known as Peartown Road and Greenville Road), west of SR 1053 to Pennsylvania Turnpike I-76, the daily bag limit is one goose, possession limit two geese. This restriction does not apply to youth participating in the youth waterfowl hunting days, which are set for Sept. 15 and 22, when regular season regulations apply. Jacobs noted recent liberalizations in Canada goose hunting opportunities, along with local population control programs being implemented by many municipalities and public and private landowners, appear to be reducing the states resident Canada goose population. The 2010-12, three-year average Pennsylvania spring resident Canada goose population was estimated at 232,820, which is 14 percent below the recent nine-year average of 271,049. However, the population remains significantly above the agencys management goal of 150,000. Hunting remains the most effective and efficient way to manage resident Canada geese, provided hunters can gain access to geese in problem areas, Jacobs said. As noted, young Pennsylvania hunters will be provided with two days of special waterfowl hunting on Saturday, Sept. 15 and 22. The Youth Waterfowl Days, which previously were limited to one day, are open to those 12 to 15 years old who hold a junior hunting license. To participate, a youngster must be accompanied by an adult, who may assist the youth in calling, duck identification and other aspects of the hunt. During these special two days of hunting, youth can harvest ducks, mergansers, coots and moorhens. In addition, because the Youth Waterfowl Days and the early Canada goose season overlap this year, youth and the adults accompanying them may harvest Canada geese. The daily limit for the Youth Waterfowl Days for Canada geese is the same as the daily limit for adults in the area being hunted.

Youth Waterfowl Days bag limits for ducks, mergansers and coots will be consistent with the limit for the regular season, which will be announced in mid-August, after the annual Waterfowl Symposium on Aug. 10. Pennsylvanias woodcock and common snipe seasons will open Oct. 13, and continue through Nov. 24. The woodcock daily limit is three, and the possession limit is six. The common snipe daily limit is eight, and the possession limit is 16. Virginia and sora rail hunting will run Sept. 1-Nov. 9. Bag limits, which are singly or combined, are three daily and three in possession. The season for king and clapper rails remains closed. Hunting for moorhen and gallinules will run from Sept. 1 to Nov. 9, and the bag limits are three daily and six in possession. Migratory game bird hunters, including those afield for doves and woodcock, are required to obtain and carry a Pennsylvania migratory game bird license ($3.70 for residents, $6.70 for nonresidents), as well as a general hunting, combination or lifetime license. All waterfowl hunters age 16 and older also must possess a federal migratory game bird and conservation (duck) stamp. The Pennsylvania 2012-13 Guide to Migratory Bird Hunting brochure will be posted on the Game Commissions website (www.pgc.state.pa.us) in mid-August, and a news release will be issued and posted in the News Release section of the website. Hunters are encouraged to report recoveries of leg-banded migratory game birds online at www.report-band.gov or use the toll-free number (1-800-327-BAND). Hunters will be requested to provide information on where, when and what species were taken, in addition to the band number. This information is crucial to the successful management of migratory game birds. fb
