2. Strategic business

Johnson and Scholes (Exploring Corporate Strategy) define strategy as follows: "Strategy is the direction and scope of an organization over the long-term: which achieves advantage for the organization through its configuration of resources within a challenging environment, to meet the needs of markets and to fulfill stakeholder expectations".

In other words, strategy is about:

Strategy at Different Levels of a Business


Strategies exist at several levels in any organization - ranging from the overall business (or group of businesses) through to individuals working in it.

Corporate Strategy - is concerned with the overall purpose and scope of the business to meet
stakeholder expectations. This is a crucial level since it is heavily influenced by investors in the business and acts to guide strategic decision-making throughout the business. Corporate strategy is often stated explicitly in a "mission statement".

Business Unit Strategy - is concerned more with how a business competes successfully in a

Scope of warranty
We hereby guarantee each new transformer manufactured by powercap systems (madras) pvt ltd. To be free from defective and workmanship problem and agree to rectify any such defects free of charge of period of 12 months from the date of registered purchase. This guarantee is subject to the following conditions.

That the transformer has had at all times, normal use and not been tampered. In case of any defects found the transformer has to be returned to us properly without any rework

Under any circumstances the company will not be responsible for indirect damage caused by any defect

Any claim under the guarantee must contain the serial No., type and purchase date of transformer.

The guarantee is applicable only if the transformer is used within its electrical environment and specification.

However the guarantee is invalid for misapplication, mishandling, damage, breakage, peeling and denting of the transformer.

Factory location:
The factory is located at 5km from the main part of the Chennai city. The plant has latest machinery and instrument facilities for their production and development activities. It can support the customer requirements of all propositions. Factory address: No 3, Thiruvalluvar salai, Kumaran nagar, Sholinganallur, Chennai 600 119. Tamil Nadu, India.

The department checks quality consists of competent engineers who are engaged in the inspection process right from procurement of raw materials to final delivery. Their maximum attention is paid to upgrade their skills, quality system and manufacturing facility to achieve consistent product quality and customer satisfaction. Powercap is dedicated towards total customer satisfaction in quality, timely delivery & cost for manufacture and supply of transformers & coils. Packing & Storage Facility:


The company possesses an echo friendly plant which is well equipped with latest packing and storage facility. They are not only concentrating on producing high quality electric transformers, industrial transformer, smps transformers and coils, but also take all the possible effects to stick to the delivery schedule. They are committed to handle the order effectively and the shipment promptly. The execution of orders in each stage is planned with immense care from beginning to end. The company possesses a separate division to perform this whole function and assures safe delivery within the desired time frame.

The store area is around 4000 Sq. Feet They have a separate area for Incoming goods inspection. There is the FIFO System with color codification. They have a well - qualified personnel for handling stores. they follow Material Identification System and possess Computerized/ BIN Card Stock Maintenance

They are successful in maintaining all material in ROQ Level.

Soldering
Soldering is a process whereby two or more metal parts (wires, component leads, pipes, etc.) are joined by the melting of a metal between them. The melting metal is known as solder. Traditionally, it was usually composed of an alloy of primarily tin and lead, but due to current environmental regulations, the use of lead in solder is becoming rare. The soldering process

requires the heating of the parts of the connection to "wetting" temperature, the temperature at which the solder will chemically alloy with the metal parts being soldered. This temperature is dependent upon the alloy of solder that is being used; with traditional" alloys, it is approximately 500 degrees F. Current No-lead solders require considerably higher wetting temperatures. In either case, if "wetting" temperature is not reached, when the solder is applied to the connection, it will melt and flow onto the metal parts, but will not alloy with them, thereby causing a "cold solder joint". By the way, cold solder joints are NOT usually dull and grainy. Dull and grainy solder joints are overheated. Cold solder joints appear uneven and lumpy, and lay on the surface of the connection like water on a waxed car hood - the solder does not flow out smoothly.

SWOT analysis (alternately SLOT analysis) is a strategic planning method used to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses/Limitations, Opportunities, and Threats involved in a project or in a business venture. It involves specifying the objective of the business venture or project and identifying the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieve that objective. The technique is credited to Albert Humphrey, who led a convention at the Stanford Research Institute (now SRI International) in the 1960s and 1970s using data from Fortune 500 companies.

Setting the objective should be done after the SWOT analysis has been performed. This would allow achievable goals or objectives to be set for the organization.
