Ruth James Dickerson Scholarship of Promise

The Scholarship of Promise was established in loving memory of Ruth James Dickerson who taught school in Moab. As a family, we celebrate Ruths life and accomplishments by creating this scholarship for student majoring in education. Ruth was one of five sisters raised in rural Colorado. The James sisters made a solemn promise to help each earn a teaching certificate. They all earned money to help the oldest sister get a teaching certificate. In turn the sister who received their teaching certificate helped the next sister earn their teaching degree. All five sisters earned a teaching certificate. One student will be selected each year. The total award is $1000 for tuition and may be used in the following manner: $500 for two semesters for a student taking 9+ credits a semester. Applicants must be majoring in education and have a cumulative GPA of 2.67 at the time of application at the college or high school level. The scholarship can be renewed for an additional semester if the student enrolls in 9+ credits and maintains a 2.67 GPA (C+ average) from the previous semester. Please complete the application and submit related materials to the Moab Educational Center no later than August 21, 2012. Selection will be made by August 25, 2012. This award is not refundable for cash. Awarded student agree to have a registration hold placed on their account at time of award. Any changes to a students registration after the award date must be coordinated with the USU Moab advisor. The award will be completely reversed if attempted credit hours fall below six credits during the term for undergraduate students and three credits for graduate students. Scholarship cannot be used with any other USU scholarship or tuition waiver. This award is not redeemable for cash for refund. Provide transcript(s) to show your GPA, class schedule you are taking 9+ classes, and verification you are an education major. In case of a tie, the earliest submission date of the application will be considered in determining the award recipient.
