In Fukushima, the lessons of Chernobyl are ignored

August 2, 2012, in IndependentWho (http://independentwho.org/fr/) (translated from the French original) Returning from a 10-day trip to Japan, Dr. Michel Fernex denounces the lies and the silence that have put the populations, contaminated by the catastrophe of Fukushima, in danger. What do you take away with you from your exchanges with the professors from the college of medicine at Fukushima? I was able to meet with four professors from this university, in cardiology, urology, internal medicine and ophthalmology. Doctors who seem completely to ignore affects tied to contamination. They were very surprised to see myocardial infarcts, diabetes and eye illnesses appear in very young subjects. I spoke to them about the work of professor Bandajevsky, of Gomel, in collaboration with the Institut Independent Belrad, following populations affected by Chernobyl. These studies have put into evidence ties between contamination, notably by Cesium 137, and these pathologies. A directive was given to the university in Fukushima not to speak about nuclear. Only one young professor of ecology undertook studies on the consequences of the catastrophe on children. He was subjected to threats. The majority of universities were disciplined, they closed their eyes to save their careers: it's very serious. A country as strong in research as Japan should deepen studies on the genetic alterations induced by contamination and develop antimutagens to reduce genetic anomalies that will be transmitted from generation to generation. Illnesses of the thyroid have already appeared, but cancers have a latency period that causes them only to become rife in four years, like cancers of the brain in children and later in adults. The number of babies with low birth weight rises. The number of births of girls lowers by 5% because the female embryo is more vulnerable. The evolution of illnesses in newborns and mongolism is kept secret. How are the populations in contaminated regions living today? I met women refugees from Kyoto who have not been informed of the risks, or of the precautions to take, who aren't receiving proper nutrition. In the city of Fukushima, people remain shut up in their homes, they don't garden anymore. Radioactivity is excessive, even in schools that have been scrubbed down. The government actually wants to send families into the radiation shelters in their own neighborhoods that are still very polluted. In the countryside, farmers that are self-sufficient are eating contaminated rice. Rice is no longer able to be sold. The farmers are ruined. They will have need for pectin to block the absorption of radionucleides and to accelerate their elimination. Apple pectin? The experience acquired in Belarus shows that a cure with three weeks of enriched apple pectin allows the charge of cesium to lessen, thus lessening the damage to tissues. These cures can be renewed every three months and must be accompanied with precautionary measures in the choice and preparation of food, especially to protect children. The Japanese authorities have not done this work of information and prevention. On the other hand, a translation in Japanese of the "Practical Guide to Radio-protection", written by Vladimir Babenko from the Belrad Institute, is very well sold in Japan.

In other words, the lessons of Chernobyl have not been heard by the authorities? No. After the catastrophe, it did not distribute stable iodine within three days. This a serious mistake not to take this simple prevention measure to avoid illnesses of the thyroid and suffering. The evacuation was late, like in Chernobyl. Outside of 30 km, there was no evacuation and people who left voluntarily were not compensated. The international rules for radiological protection were not respected: admissible doses of radioactivity were raised, even for children who are however 100 times more sensitive to ionizing radiation than adults. The Soviet authorities had refused to cross these dose limits. The Japanese authorities accepted, under the influence of the atomic lobby represented by the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), who came to save the nuclear industry rather than the populations. The WHO (World Health Organization) was completely absent. Dosimeters were however distributed to children? Dosimeters give an idea of external radiation, and not of the charge of artificial radionucleides in the organism. Chronic internal radiation is 10 times more pathogenic than external doses. It would be necessary to measure this internal contamination regularly and advice families how to live, to eat, to dress in a contaminated zone. This is not done. It's criminal. What brought you to Fukushima? My impertinence. Some months ago, after I read an article in the Japanese newspaper Mainichi Daily News, I sent a long article to respond point by point to affirmations that I deemed false. My response was published in its entirety and it made a buzz in Japan to the point where the Japanese, in particular associates of victims, invited me to make a conference tour. I was able to measure how active the nuclear lobby is in restarting reactors while the victims were abandoned.
