1-What do you know about Marilyn Monroe? 2-Why was she famous? Read the following Biography while looking at some pictures. Then, answer the questionnaire below.

Marilyn Monroe

Born Norma Jeane Mortenson in Los Angeles, California on June 1st 1926. Marilyn's natural hair color is brown, but she is known to most as a blonde. She first dyed her hair blonde in 1946, around the time she changed her name from Norma Jeane.

Marilyn believed that the right side of her face was her "best side."

In the 1960s, pop artist Andy Warhol created several 'mass-produced' images from photographs of celebrities. After Marilyn Monroe's tragic death in August 1962, Warhol used a publicity shot by Gene Korman for the 1953 film Niagara, for his famous iconic series of Marilyn.

On January 14, 1954, Marilyn married baseball superstar Joe DiMaggio at San Francisco's City Hall. Nine months later on October 27, 1954, Marilyn and Joe divorced. They attributed the split to a 'conflict of careers,' and remained close friends

It was rumored that Marilyn was going to remarry Joe DiMaggio on August 8th, 1962, three days after she died. Joe DiMaggio, had roses delivered to Marilyn's grave twice a week for 20 years.

Marilyn's favorite perfume was Channel No. 5 and her favorite store was Bloomingdale's. She also adored the restaurant Romanoff's in Hollywood.

A reported affair with John F. Kennedy began in late 1961. At the President's gala birthday celebration in Madison Square Garden on May 19, 1962, Marilyn sang her now famous Happy Birthday tribute to JFK. The Attorney General, Bobby Kennedy was also reported to have had an affair with Marilyn shortly before her death.

She married writer Arthur Miller twice: the 1st time in a civil ceremony, then in a Jewish (to which she had converted) ceremony 2 days later.

Marilyn appeared on the first cover of Playboy in 1953.

Marilyn's first modeling job only paid five dollars. Her quote: Hollywood is a place where they'll pay you a $1,000 for a kiss and 50 for your soul.

Marilyn washed her face 15 times a day, because she had fear of blemishes.

In the film 'Some Like It Hot', Marilyn required 47 takes to get 'It's me, Sugar' correct, instead saying either 'Sugar, it's me' or 'It's Sugar, me. After take 30, director Billy Wilder had the line written on a blackboard

The movie 'The Misfits' (1961) was both Marilyn Monroe AND Clark Gable's last completed film.

The circumstances surrounding Monroe's apparent drug overdose at age 36 at her Brentwood home has long prompted rumors that she was murdered, although the death was listed a suicide.They found a bottle of sleepng pills over the table.
