On Thursday,October 9, 2008, I, Mr. Jaime Morales from the Palm Beach County Health Department (PBCHD) visited apartment H-I07 at the invitation of Ms. Barnes. Her visit was no. intendedto assistthe residentto identify indoor air quality problems in her unit, and provide recommendations correctthe problems. to Attachedis a copy of the Indoor Environmental Quality surveywith observations and recommendations. We recommend that the mold/mildew of affected areas be remediated along the D.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines. Mold Remediation in Schools and Commercial Buildings.Although focusedon schoolsandcommercialbuildings,this document is applicable otherbuilding types. to If you chooseto hire a contractor(or other professionalserviceprovider), ask the contractorto follow the recommendations EPA's Mold Remediation Schoolsand CommercialBuildings, in in the guidelinesof the American Conference Governmental of Industrial Hygenists(ACGIH), or otherguidelinesfrom professional government or organizations. Observations within the kitchen include stainedceiling, waterdamaged ceiling & window sill and water stainedwindow frame. Moisturemeasurements belowthe window were lessthan20% WME (WoodMoisture Equivalent).The Air HandlerUnit (AHU) & closetwaslocatedin the living room. Observations includedwater stainsin walls with moisturegreaterthan20% WME, dirty filter, mold growthon the AHU coils, dirty handlerwalls, a water leak from waterheater,and a full waterdrip pan(rusted).It wasnotedthat the waterheaterhadpreviouslycaughtfired. Repairsweremadeby maintenance. Improperrepairswere observed.
