Liaison Lecturers

Interns must provide their liaison lecturer with a hard or soft copy of the following information PRIOR to commencing the Internship: 1. Names and contact details of Head teacher & Co-operatng teacher 2. School organisation- periods /bell times 3. Teaching schedule period allocation / stage, class / topics
Subject Details
Outline
The Internship Program provides students with an opportunity to acquire a higher level of formal practical experiences within the framework of the New South Wales Institute of Teachers Professional Standards. It provides significant field-based learning experiences that lead to further development of pedagogical practices appropriate to stage and diversity of students needs classroom organisation and management behaviour management strategies use of ICT for teaching and assessment assessment of students learning that enables planning for the cultural, cognitive and linguistic diversity of learners planning of evidenced based learning experiences in the PDHPE Key Learning Area reporting to colleagues and caregivers The subject requires students to reflect on both their planning and practice, identify areas of weakness and to take action for improvement. Action learning theories and skills are explored in order for student teachers to carry out classroom research that supports school curriculum policy initiatives (such as implementation of all PDHPE related syllabi), based on valid assessment data and school-wide management agendas.

All Interns will receive a copy of the University of Wollongong, Faculty of Education 2012 Professional Experience Handbook. The Professional Experience Handbook outlines all Policies and Procedures that relate to Internship.

Assessment
Minimum attendance requirements
Interns MUST complete 35 days to meet requirements.Refer to page 16 in the Professional Expereince Handbook.
Subject Requirement
1. Pre-service teachers MUST make an appointment to meet with their co-operating teacher and provide evidence of planning prior to the commencement of the Internship. Students who do not may be prevented from commencing the Internship. 2. Students at risk of failing EDPP402 may be prevented from commencing or continuing the Internship. 3. Prior to commencing and throughout the Internship preservice teachers must submit all lesson planning on the e-learning site at least one week in advance. Failure to do so may lead to a student being withdrawn from the Intership.
Late submission
Faculty of Education guidelines specify the following penalties: Up to one week late 20% of marks will be deducted. Up to two weeks late 50% of marks will be deducted. More than two weeks late no marks will be awarded please note that assignments should be submitted even when no mark is to be awarded so that subject requirements are met. Extensions
Extensions of time to submit material for assessment can only be granted in exceptional circumstances such as illness, injury, other serious cause, or extenuating circumstance - further details are available at http://www.uow.edu.au/about/policy/UOW058721.html N.B. This Subject Outline provides details of requirements for the subject and this information includes the dates for the submission of work for assessment. Pressure of work, either from employment or from other subjects, is not an acceptable reason for seeking an extension of time.

Ethical Objection by Students to the Use of Animal and Animal Products in Coursework Subjects
The University of Wollongong is committed to recognition of the diversity of values held by students at the University and seeks to provide avenues for students to complete their chosen field of study without compromising their ethical commitments. The University, through its Animal Ethics Committee, has a responsibility to review any proposed research and teaching involving living animals in accordance with the NHMRC Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes (2004) and the Animal Research Act, 1985 (NSW). This policy provides a framework for recognition of and responses to students' ethical or religious objection to animal use in coursework subjects at the University of Wollongong. For the purpose of this policy, animal use includes killing of animals in experimental work, dissection of animals that are already dead, use of animal tissues, use of animal-derived products (such as sera).
