Dear Parent of an HHS Tiger, I am very excited to start another school year with your child as my student!

I am writing this letter to introduce myself and give you some information about the Advanced Placement Language and Composition course they will be taking for the rest of the year. First, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself as well as my philosophy of education. I have been an educator in some capacity for the past six years. I have always loved working with and learning new things about people. When I had the opportunity to come to Hopkinsville last year, I was extremely excited to gain the opportunity to teach Advanced Placement courses. I believe that our children truly are the future of our country and that we must prepare them for the world they will face when they depart from HHS. I feel that as a teacher, it is important to provide them with the necessary critical thinking skills to become successful members of our community. That is why, with this philosophy in mind, I treat my courses as college courses, and expect students to maintain a strong work ethic. We have a very unique opportunity at HHS to participate in the Advance Kentucky program. Advance Kentucky is a statewide math-science initiative dedicated to helping Kentuckys students reach new heights in rigorous academic achievement. Advance Kentucky has a philosophy of inclusiveness and high expectations for each student. The model expands access to, preparation for and participation in academically rigorous coursework. To assist all students, Saturday test prep sessions are held three times per year, with highly qualified consultants who are regarded as experts in their fields. Additionally, each student that obtains a qualifying score of 3 or higher gains college credit as well as a $100 cash reward from Advance Kentucky as a congratulations for all their hard work. Now, I would like to extend an invitation to you. I would like to offer a bit of extra credit for your student. However, they wont be doing the workyou will. I would like for you to tell me something that you feel is extremely special about your child. I know that each one of my students is unique, and who better to tell me how unique than their parent. I would like you to write me a letter or email and send it with your student by August 19th, 2011. Also, I would like to start an email list so that I can communicate what is going on in our classroom. If you would like to be a part of our email list, please write your email on the AP contract I will be sending home with your child. I would like to thank you for your investment in the education of your child and look forward to working with your student over the course of the 2011-2012 school year! Sincerely,
