Seasoned members, along with our new members, is a good thing. We have tried the rental of the swimming pool to help pay for chemicals, but that is now a thing of the past. Since 2010, your Elks National teamed up with the USO to help our Veterans. We have raised $73 million dollars.

OF ALBANY VOL. NO. 102 NO.104 THE GOOD LIFE CITY AUGUST 2012 MESSAGE EXALTED RULER JOHN YOST August 1, 2012 The National Convention was a big success. 6500 in attendance, over 1000 Exalted Rulers, and 236 District Deputies. The Georgia Ritual team came in 3rd in the Eastern Division. Two of the ladies received All American status and one in the Lecturing Knight position received the Bill King Award for having the highest score over all. Quite a large surprise for this first time ritual person. She accomplished so much. The Dalton team has done Georgia proud. We have tried the rental of the swimming pool to help pay for chemicals, but that is now a thing of the past. Our pool members deserve the privacy for them and their families. The support we have gotten from them is a blessing. So to you all, Enjoy, and thanks for your support. We must now include our new members into our mix, and with their help, choose some of their music and the family activities we do. However, we have to work together to accomplish this. Having our seasoned members, along with our newmembers, is a good thing and we must grab hold and go with it. The future lies with all of us, and I for one want these young people to begin the process of preparing the Albany Lodge for a new beginning. Its EXCITING!!!! The Kitchen and Restaurant staff are doing a wonderful job. Bring a friend and enjoy the evening. We have had a lot of our members returning. The word is out. The best secret in town is your lodge. NOTE: Since 2010 your Elks National teamed up with the USO to help our Veterans. We have raised $73 Million Dollars. SECRETARY DUNCAN THOMPSON "Hot August Nights", a live concert on August 9, 2009, by Neil Diamond. Songs from the concert and album include, of course, "Cherry Cherry", Cracklin Rosie, the most famous "Sweet Caroline", and others. At all Florida State baseball games, the crowd sings Sweet Caroline in the middle of the 7th inning. Its a tradition with many tales about how it got started. Now, several other schools have adopted the tradition, and sing other songs by Diamond, and other artists. Maybe some day in the future we will hear a Phillip Phillips (American Idol) song sung by students at a Georgia ball game. Holy Moley! I have been busy with all the new applications coming in almost daily. It certainly has been a fun summer to get all these apps in, and all these new members onboard. On June 19th we initiated fourteen new members, and now we have about that many more to initiate on August 21st. Also, we have had three reinstatements from former members, and the hits keep on coming. All applications are open for review. New statutes preclude listing them in the newsletter, but we must make them available to the membership. All the applicant names and proposers will be posted outside the lodge room for review by the membership. We have had three events at the pool, which brought out numerous members and families. It sure has been fun to see all those kids and adults in the pool. Plans are to try to keep it open, weather permitting, until some time in September if not all of September. The house/pool committee is planning a Chicken Wing Challenge on August 18th. Details are on the cover of this newsletter. Dean Rosier, District Deputy SW, will conduct his DD Clinic at the Albany lodge on August 18th at 10am. The ladies Auxiliary will hold their annual "Denim and Diamonds event on September 22. Details are one page over. We do have the Fall Meeting of the Georgia Elks Association coming up October 12-14th, and we want all the facilities to look as good as possible. I am sure work parties will be going on between now and then to spruce up the lodge and put on a good convention. See me or Stan Jones if you can help or have an idea. We need everyone working to make this event successful and prosperous. Come on out to a meeting and see your lodge at work. Bring in an application and get your friends involved. Fraternally, DPT, Jr, Sec. AUXILIARY PRESIDENT PETITE YOST Ladies, Time is flying when you have fun. The National Convention in Austin, Texas was well attended. Donna and Dean Rosier, Margie and Stan Jones, and Petite and John Yost were there from the Albany Lodge. The items for Lily Pad and Autism Center are filling up the boxes in the Lobby, and we appreciate everyones donations. Our Aidmore fundraiser will be on Saturday, September 22nd, and of course it will be the Denim and Diamonds Dinner and Dance with the jewelry surprise. Please come out, enjoy, and have fun. Make plans for reservations early! Now it is time to attend our meeting. We have many projects to be completed, and the Fall State Meeting will be hosted by the Albany Lodge and Auxiliary. Everybody knows what that means: a lot of advanced planning and manpower to complete the task. Dont wait to be called! Come out and volunteer. Thank you! On Saturday, August 4th, at 10:00am, Eula Rupert, State Auxiliary President, will have a workshop for everyone to attend. Ladies from other Georgia Auxiliaries will be present to share their knowledge with us. A lunch will be served for $5.00 per person. Please make reservations with Eula at 229-888-8966 or Petite at 229-432-9213. See you at the lodge and our next meeting! Petite E L K S T R I V I A This Elk awarded Army Chaplain Colonel James ONeill the Bronze Star, when the conditions cleared, after his prayer for good weather during the Battle of the Bulge. Please let us know of someone who is sick so that we can put them on our prayer list. Thank You. Answer to last months question: This is the first month weve had trivia.
