1. POWER ON & LOG IN
Take computer out of bag Open computer lid Press POWER button (with white dot) at top right or top center of keyboard Click SWITCH USER button Click OTHER USER Type in Whitfield username (no @whitfieldschool.org) and password Hit ENTER (or click arrow button)

2. WAIT FOR YOUR ACCOUNT TO LOAD (ABOUT 60 SECONDS) 3. CHANGE LENOVO SOLUTIONS CENTER SETTINGS
Click red circle icon (next to battery icon at bottom right of screen) Click YES on User Account Control Window Click I AGREE on Adobe Air Window Wait for Lenovo Solution Center window to appear Uncheck Always show welcome screen and close (or X-out of) by clicking red X button Uncheck Send anonymous information Check Dont ask me again & click OK button Click Alerts view at top of window Click FIX OPTIONS button on the right side of the window Click USE ANOTHER TOOL on bottom left menu Click I will use another tool Close (or X-out of) window by clicking red X button at top right corner of window Things to notice: system tray, taskbar, start button/menu Open Internet Explorer by clicking on e icon on taskbar Select Use recommended security and compatibility settings Click OK button Click gear icon on upper right of window (just below red X button) On dropdown menu, click Internet Options On Internet Options menu, click Connections tab At bottom of window, click LAN SETTINGS button At top of LAN settings window, uncheck Automatically detect settings box Click OK button Click OK button on Internet Options window Click star icon on upper right of window (just below red X button) Click dropdown arrow next to Add to favorites button Click Import and export Click NEXT button Check Favorites box Click NEXT button Click BROWSE button Click DESKTOP icon on left sidebar Click on the file named whitmarks92211 Click OPEN button Click NEXT button

5. ACTIVATE MICROSOFT OFFICE

Click START button on bottom left of screen Click ALL PROGRAMS at bottom of Start menu Scroll down, find Microsoft Office folder, and click it once to open it Click on Microsoft OneNote (second from top with purple icon) Click OK button on User Name window Select No, just use notebooks on this computer Click CONTINUE button Click NEXT button on Microsoft Office Activation Wizard Window Click CLOSE button on bottom of Activation Wizard Window Select Use recommended settings Click OK button Click YES button on User account control window Close (or X-out of) OneNote by clicking red X button at top right corner of window

6. USE WINDOWS EXPLORER TO INSTALL PRINTERS

Point-out green PaperCut window on top right of screen, then close it Click on file folder icon on taskbar Click on address bar at top of window Delete the word Libraries Use the forward slash key above the Enter key to type in: \\whi03pprcut Hit the ENTER key [if Internet Explorer opens, you used the backslash key instead of the forward slash key try again] Double-click on Canon Follow Wait for blank printer window to open, then close (or X-out of) by clicking the red X button Double-click on Toshiba Follow Wait for blank printer window to open, then close (or X-out of) by clicking the red X button Close (or X-out of) \\whi03pprcut window by clicking red X button Whenever not in use, computer must be closed and in its case Closing the lid automatically locks the computer

Apps you use often can be pinned to the taskbar or start menu To pin apps, find them on your start menu, then right-click and select pin to taskbar/ start menu You can also pin apps by dragging them to the taskbar from the start menu Pin Microsoft Word and Microsoft OneNote to your taskbar Click on the blue W icon on the taskbar (or find it on the start menu) to open Word Explore the ribbon interface at the top of the window Close (or X-out of) Microsoft Word

Click on the purple N icon on the taskbar (or find it on the start menu) to open OneNote See the illustration on the first page for an idea of what OneNote is a digital notebook Locate the Quick Access Toolbar just above the purple File tab at the top right of the window Click the down arrow on the right of the toolbar At the bottom of the dropdown menu, click on More Commands Click the following items on the left column and then click the ADD>> button between columns Attach file Copy part of the screen into One Delete Favorite Pen 1 Favorite Pen 2 Favorite Pen 3 Favorite Pen 4 Favorite Highlighter 1 Favorite Highlighter 2 Favorite Highlighter 3 Favorite Highlighter 4 Ink Styles Lasso Select New Side Note Record Audio Record Video Type Text or Select Objects Click the dropdown arrow above the left column and select Draw Menu Click the following items on the left column and then click the ADD>> button between columns Insert or Remove Extra Writing Sp Click the OK button at the bottom right of the window Click the down arrow on the right of the Quick Access Toolbar (again) At the bottom of the dropdown menu, click Show Below Ribbon Close (or X-out of) Microsoft OneNote Managing power settings can increase battery life, performance, etc. Get to power menus by doing one of the following: Click on the large battery icon on the right side of the taskbar Click once on the small battery icon in the system tray at bottom right of screen 4

5. MANAGE BATTERY POWER

Select a power plan to suit your needs Click on Advanced or More power options for additional options/power plans Screen brightness can be controlled quickly by pressing both the Fn and sun up/down buttons

6. PERSONALIZE THE DESKTOP

Right-click on somewhere on the desktop At bottom of dropdown menu, click Personalize Use this menu to change themes, colors, sounds, set background images, etc. X-Out of (or close) personalization window

7. USE THE CONTROL PANEL

To change settings through the control panel, click on the start button On the right (grey) side of the start menu, click on Control Panel To make it easier to find stuff, locate the View by: menu on the upper right of the window Next to the words View by: click the blue Category arrow to see a dropdown menu On the dropdown menu, click on Small icons Important icons to explore include the following: Display (control screen resolution, settings, backgrounds, and monitors/projectors) Mouse (control your mouse and turn on/off trackpoint/touchpad) Personalization (customize your computer)

1. RESTART TABLET & LOG IN
Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software setup window should appear

2. ENROLL FINGERPRINTS (OPTIONAL)

Uncheck Show at startup box, enter password, and hit ENTER (or click submit) Click box (lower of the two) above the right thumb (you can do as many fingers as you want) Wipe entire thumb pad across fingerprint reader (orange light means bad read, try again) Keep wiping until progress bar on screen reaches 100% Click CLOSE button Click CLOSE button again [Any time fingerprint reader light is on, its ready to startup/wake computer from your print]

3. PINNING APPS TO THE TASKBAR/START MENU

Apps you use often can be pinned to the taskbar or start menu To pin apps, find them on your start menu, then right-click and select pin to taskbar/ start menu You can also pin apps by dragging them to the taskbar from the start menu Pin Microsoft Word and Microsoft OneNote to your taskbar

4. ROTATE THE SCREEN (CLOCKWISE ONLY) INTO TABLET MODE

Hinge only rotates one way: clockwise into tablet mode and back counterclockwise into laptop mode Best way to rotate screen is when it is straight up After rotating, close screen on top of keyboard for full tablet mode Only three physical buttons available on screen frame: power, screen lock, and screen rotate

5. PEN/TOUCH INPUT & THE TIP

Both finger and pen can be used to interact with screen Tablet knows when youre using your pen and when youre using your finger Remove stylus from garage (stylus tether is attached) Screen is meant to be touched and handled treat it just like paper (dont be dainty with the screen) If you anchor your hand on paper when writing, do the same on the tablet screen (increases accuracy) Two buttons on pen = barrel button and eraser button Barrel button: hold down and click on something for right-click menu (can be turned off) You can also right-click by tapping on something, holding until a circle appears, then releasing Eraser button: acts as eraser (when pressed down on screen) in most apps To access on-screen keyboard, look for sliding tab poking out of top left corner of desktop Slide it out this is the Tablet Input Panel (TIP) TIP is both a keyboard and a handwriting-to-text tool that learns your handwriting style TIP handwriting-to-text tool learns more the more often you useand correctit Learn shortcut tips on the upper right side of the handwriting TIP Tablet recognizes when you click on areas where text belongs Small, TIP icon appears to click on Click on the blue W icon on the taskbar (or find it on the start menu) to open Word Explore the ribbon interface at the top of the window Close (or X-out of) Microsoft Word Click on the purple N icon on the taskbar (or find it on the start menu) to open OneNote See the illustration on the first page for an idea of what OneNote is a digital notebook Locate the Quick Access Toolbar just above the purple File tab at the top right of the window 6
