Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College is a Foundation Comprehensive College with 1060+ students on roll including over 160

in Post 16 education. We serve an area of high social deprivation and the proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals (41 per cent) is well above the national average. A high proportion of pupils (90+ per cent) are from ethnic minority backgrounds and almost all have English as an additional language at the start of their secondary education. Other than English, the main languages spoken are Urdu, Punjabi, Pushto and Hindi. Furthermore, the proportion of pupils identified as having special educational needs is well above average, as is the proportion of pupils with statements of special educational needs at approximately 4 per cent. In our recent Ofsted inspection in October 2011, the College was awarded an overall grade of satisfactory with seven good features including behaviour, safeguarding and the provision of support and guidance to students. We achieved 41% 5 A* to C last year which was 5% above our target and we are expecting 44% or better this year. The College is a part of the Bradford Partnership, a not-for-profit organisation, owned by its member schools. It exists to support schools to deliver the best outcomes for children, young people and their communities through peer performance reviews, access to a network of school-to-school support and practitioner-led professional development for staff. We have a Governing body that is very active and supportive of the College. Here at Laisterdyke, we work closely with the community and are seeking to further enhance those links. We have a Community Development Officer and a Community Enterprise Manager who assist in this purpose. Further afield, we have international links with schools in Kenya and Pakistan. We are currently reviewing our vision and aims as well as our curriculum provision, including that which we provide to Post 16. We are about to embark on a major programme of buildings redevelopment which will benefit the entire site and improve the lives of our students. It is envisaged that this will include new P.E. changing facilities and re-developed teaching facilities and dining spaces. This work is scheduled to commence during summer 2012. Our existing facilities include a purpose-built Post 16 extension which was completed during summer 2011 and a state of the art Skills Centre which provides facilities for vocational courses, including a Motor Vehicle workshop and Hair and Beauty Salon. All in all, Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College is at a very exciting stage of its development and we invite you to join us in forming our future.
