Geobrugg Netting Solutions Geobrugg AG develops and produces netting and mesh made from high-tensile steel wire for technologically mature geohazard solutions, for ground support and open pit mining and security applications which are installed worldwide. Geobrugg AG employs 120 people in Romanshorn. Geobrugg concentrates on the following two business areas: Geobrugg Geohazard Solutions Systems with steel wire netting and mesh protecting from natural hazards, such as rockfall, unstable slopes, landslides, mudflow and snow avalanches. High-tensile steel wire mesh for rockfall protection and rock stabilization in open pit mines as well as ground support in underground mining. Geobrugg Security Engineering Special steel wire net and mesh as escape and intrusion protection for penitentiaries, boat barriers for harbor as well as offshore oil and gas production facilities, protection fences for motorsports race circuits, rocket propelled grenades protection for armored vehicles and ships. Special architecture mesh for sports stadiums and parking garages as building
facades, stairwells and fall protection. Ball catch fence for sports stadiums. Rollaway fence system for sports stadiums and major events. Geobrugg Rope Architecture becomes Fatzer Structural Ropes Steel ropes and accessories for architectural requirements, such as facades and roofs made from glass, sports stadiums and bridge suspension systems were handed over to our sister company Fatzer AG effective January 1st 2012. They are producing open and full-locked steel ropes in the groups own rope-making factories. Their diameter range extends from approximately 6 mm to approximately 130 mm.
Geobrugg rockfall protection mesh systems (catch fences and rockfall drapery/rockfall netting) made from high-tensile steel wire consist of the following product groups to match different rockfall problems:
Rockfall catch fences TXI with BAFU approval for impact energies up to 100 kJ without retaining ropes Rockfall barriers RXI and AXI series with BAFU approval for impact energies 250 kJ to 5'000 kJ Rockfall protection barriers with ETAG approval GBE series for impact energies 100 kJ - 8'000 kJ Rockfall drapes/rockfall netting TECCO and SPIDER Hybrid (attenuator) rockfall protection; a combination of rockfall protection drapes and flexible rockfall barriers
RXI/AXI rockfall protection barriers and rockfall meshes 250 5000 kJ with BAFU approval
RXI rockfall protection barriers and rockfall meshes stop rocks which even overwhelm concrete galleries We supply our RXI rockfall protection barriers and catch fences approved according to the guidelines of the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU) for absorption capacities of 250 kJ (low energy), 500 kJ, 1000 kJ, 1500 kJ and 2000 kJ also for 3000 kJ and 5000 kJ (high energy). They are characterized by large residual heights in the impact field, no deflection with maximum event and the ability to maintain functional serviceability with combined stresses such as multiple hits, tree falls and snowslides.
ROCCOring net and RUNTOPrunning rope as central elements In the case of an event the energy is first dissipated through the plastic deformation of the ring bundle. This reduces the stress on the anchors. RUNTOP running ropes allow the ring net which is fixed to shackles to slide in a matter of split seconds to the place they are most needed (curtain effect).
AXI for 250 and 500 kJ: reinforced posts replace retaining ropes We developed the AXI rock fall barriers for protective structures adjacent to (service) roads: they have reinforced posts which do away with the need for retaining ropes. The rigid AXI systems are also suitable for supporting walls, existing concrete structures or compacted rockfaces to which they can be simply mounted and anchored..
The components
Ground plates with linked post fixing Spiral rope anchors or self-drilling anchors with Geobrugg FLEX head
These rockfall protection barriers satisfy the conditions of the guidelines of the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment BAFU.
GBE rockfall protection barriers and catch fences for 100 - 8000 kJ with ETAG approval
The new GBE rockfall protection barriers and catch fences are supplied for impact energies of 100 kJ, 500 kJ, 1000 kJ, 2000 kJ, 3000 kJ, 5000 kJ and 8000 kJ and have been successfully tested and approved under vertical fall conditions according to the guideline ETAG 27.
Mounting: Amazingly quick and simple The mutually adapted components are quick and simple to install. The high-tensile TECCO or the SPIDER spiral rope net can be delivered to the site preassembled to the posts, where they are drawn over the supporting rope like a drape.
GBE barriers satisfy the most stringent requirements of ETAG 027 category A Our GBE rockfall protection barriers and catch fences have a verified residual useful height corresponding to the highest category A of ETAG 27: After the test at 100% of the nominal energy, we verified a residual useful height of over 50% of the original construction height. The European Technical Approval (ETA) was issued by a recognized licensing authority. This allows the product to carry the CE mark which in a few years will become obligatory in all European countries.

Rockfall Barriers
Geovert leads from experience in this field, offering our clients the comfort of seamless, practical design-build solutions. Our experience is comprehensive in every facet from design and project management, through to specialised construction equipment and techniques required for installations. We have installed a variety of certified protection systems ranging from 100kJ to 5000kJ across on a variety of sites protecting dam infrastructure, transport corridors, residential and commercial buildings, and in open pit mines. Many of the sites have required a combination of technical access including helicopters, cranes, EWPs and roped access for construction and installation. Dynamic rockfall barriers have been tested and certified for up to 5000kJ of impact energy. This is the equivalent to a 16,000kg projectile moving at 90km/hr and stopped 90-0km/hr less than 1 second and with a 9m deflection.

Rockfall protection screen
AVAROC rockfall protection screens stop rocks ranging in size from a few dm3 to several m3 (100 to 5000 kJ). Nets for low energy levels: from 100 kJ to 500 kJ Dynamic barriers for high energy levels: from 750 kJ to 5000 kJ These deformable screens are designed to intercept rocks and may be fitted with braking systems. To check their performance levels and increase their efficiency, they are continually tested in the presence of independent organisations. A draft European standard is currently being validated with a view to defining and regulating the use of rockfall protection screens. They are particularly fast to install and offer protection at a reasonable cost. While their particular geometry may vary, they all consist of: nets to intercept the rocks and absorb part of their impact energy. These may consist of: - ANONET type ring nets, - ELITE type cable nets, - HPN netting, - Double-twist netting posts to hold the nets. These may be made of galvanised or painted steel or wood treated against attack by lichens and mosses, braking parts to dissipate residual impact energy, teel cable stays to hold the structure on the ground via anchors (bars or cables). Location: After an inventory of the unstable rocks, the energy absorption capacity (class), height and location of the rockfall protection screens are defined using a trajectography software. This is carried out by an independent design office approved by AVAROC.
