TOPIC 17: In some countries the average worker is obliged to retire at the age of 50, while in others people

can work until they are 65 or 70. Until what age do you think people should be encouraged to remain in paid employment? Give reasons for your answer. A mandatory retirement age limit is varied (t varied dng loi t g th h?) from places to places in all parts of the world. Some countries allow their people to pursue their passionate jobs until the age of 70 while others living somewhere far away are compelled to retire in the early 50s (cau nay co gay hieu nham thanh nhung nam 1950 ko? in their early 50s). However, I strongly believe that the state government should let their citizens decide when they want to free themselves from work rather than set a fixed number for everyone. The first stand point/standpoint to offer workers the opportunities to work is financial difficulties they may encounter in their latter years. Although some point out that the elderly people can receive support from social security welfare, these amounts of money are often much lower to be able to afford their decent lives. Elder people can easily fall prey to diseases and therefore (ch xem li cch dng therefore nh) they have to struggle with the increase in medical services expense if they are not financially supported from other sources except the social security benefits. They also find it difficult to lead a peaceful life with the recent accelerating inflation rates even they have already planned their monetary resources in former/previous years. Hence, the society should not deprive them of gaining more financial support for the retirees remaining time when they are still healthy and useful for their work. Furthermore, there are still exceptions while many just drift into and out of jobs owing to following the money trail. They can be professors in any walk of life such as environmental scientists or psychologists who are always passionate about their jobs. From their views, their work is no longer a financially supported resource but a pure pleasure, a drive and a passion as well. Those people are likewise contributing their best efforts to the development of the whole society. If they still can perform their tasks well it would be beneficial for both individuals and the community to reward those work addicts with the decision/desire to pursue their happiness and gain satisfaction from working. In the light of those above facts, I hold the opinion that a person should be provided the right to choose what they want to do within their abilities/within their scope. Workers know exactly when the most suitable time for their retirement comes, hence let give them a choice.
