I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older; then it dawned on me, they're cramming for their final exam. George Carlin

Can You Pass The IEP Quiz? Q: What should you do with your students exam papers? (a) Lose them! (b) Throw them away! (c) Give them back to students! (d) Keep them and submit with your class rolls and lesson plans at the end of the semester.

Jokes of the Week One of my favorite school stories involves an 8th grade special ed. student who was also an advanced content student. He was failing a number of classes due to incomplete work. I told him that all the teachers were tired of him doing diddlysquat. He replied "I beg to differ! I do diddly; I just don't do squat!" I was teaching a kindergarten class around 9 years ago and took out a record to play. One little boy looked up at me and said " I hope you have a big enough CD player for that" It took me about one minute until it sunk in that he had never seen a record before. Maybe I should have taken out a typewriter as well! Teaching Tip Exam Week For IEP students, its exam week. Here are some tips to help your week run smoothly.

Teaching Tip The Art of Writing IEP reports Its coming up to report writing time! Please read the guidelines below on writing IEP reports. Writing Reports When writing your students reports please be aware of the following issues:

Make sure student names are correct (i.e. it matches the name at the top of the report.) Dont use nicknames. Begin your first comment in the skills section with the students name. Add the students letter grades by looking at their final scores in the assessment grid. Dont use the same comments for different students individualize! Try not to use emotive language.

Have a good warm up prior to testing help your students to put their English brains into gear. Focus your warm up on the skill that you are about to test them on. Create a set of test rules, display them on the board or make a poster. Make sure your students know and follow them. Make sure they are aware of the consequences if they dont obey test rules. Make sure any instructions prior to testing are clear and concise. Have a plan in place prior to the lesson as to how you will explain/demonstrate any required information. Read and follow teachers instructions when administering and marking. This will ensure consistency across each year level. Seek support from a colleague or coordinator prior to testing if you are unclear about anything with regard to the assessment task. Happy Testing!

Proofreading Your Buddys Reports When proofreading your buddys reports please use a highlighter to indicate errors. Proofreaders should check the following:

Names are correct. The first comment begins with the students name. All sections have been completed correctly. There are no typographical or grammatical errors. Language being used is not emotive.

Finally, please remember that IEP student reports are formal documents that are stored in students college portfolios. Therefore, it is very important that we do the best possible job we can with them.
