ADEMCO AD12612
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
This equipment should be installed in accordance with Chapter 2 of the National Fire Alarm Code, ANSI/NFPA 72, (National Fire Protection Association, Batterymarch Park, Quincy, MA 02269). Printed information describing proper installation, operation, testing, maintenance, evacuation planning, and repair service is to be provided with this equipment. Refer to the Installation and Setup Guide of the control panel with which this power supply will function. Warning: Do not connect the power transformer to a receptacle controlled by a switch.
POWER SUPPLY
GENERAL
The AD12612 is an auxiliary (supplemental) power supply/battery charger that provides 12VDC, 1.2A continuous output to power alarm devices. Selection of 12V output is made by the jumper position on the connector as shown in Figure 1.
MOUNTING
The power supply can be mounted inside a control panels enclosure if there is sufficient room for both the supply and its backup battery. The unit is supplied with two adhesive-backed mounting strips that are first applied to the pc board, then simply pressed into a convenient open space to secure the supply to the cabinet. If there is only room for the power supply in the control panel enclosure, mount the backup battery inside its own UL Listed enclosure and interconnected to the power supply through a conduit. NOTES: 1. The AD12612 is factory preset at 13.6VDC with the jumper set in the 12V position (see Figure 1). IMPORTANT NOTE: Supplying 6VDC has not been evaluated by UL, therefore no usage of that voltage is referred to in this manual. 2. Connect the AC transformer (No. 1361 for 12VDC operation, to the terminal block terminals marked AC. Do not plug the transformer into an AC outlet at this time. 3. Connect the DC output (available on the terminal strip) to alarm devices requiring power, carefully observing polarity. 4. Connect a 12V rechargeable battery to the flying leads of the power supply (red to + , black to ). 5. Plug the transformer into an unswitched 120VAC outlet. 6. The battery is over-current protected by a PTC device that automatically self-restores when the over-current situation is corrected. LEDs: Green: Remains on as long as AC power is connected to the terminal strip. Red: Remains on as long as DC power is available at the terminal strip.
